View Full Version : Mods for Baja
Mike Franke 05-08-2004, 10:59 PM O.K. everybody.....I've decided to keep my non-Turbo Baja, at least until I know exactly when the final model year of the Turbo will be, and at that point, will probably add a second Baja to the stable, thus replacing my aging Suzuki Samurai.....
In the mean time, I'm looking for:
1. A well-designed air intake system
2. An exhaust system, with or without full header. I don't really feel like omitting cats, but, since FL doesn't really care any more about the environment, what the hell.
3. A short-throw shifter, but one I won't want to pull out a week after installation.
4. An XM head unit, and am eyeballing the Alpine all-in-one.
5. Effective, yet not tooth-rattling suspension upgrades
Any advice???
Chris N 05-09-2004, 06:39 PM check out www.rallitek.com for some specific Baja stuff, maybe www.subaruwrxparts.com has a couple items, and www.subaruxtras.com All SOHC 2.5L engine goodies will go on the Baja non-turbo nice.
The subaru SPT shortshift imo is probably the best short "throw" shifter, all the others are just short sticks that don't fit or feel right.
The Borla headers will fit but then I'm not sure about how the factory exhaust will match to it. Someone else was selling a intermediate and cat back($700ish, ouch) system, I can't remember who.
www.isrperformance.com sells the scorpion lift kit, haven't seen any lowering kits yet.
Hows that for a start. The Nasioc venders often offer Baja compatible stuff and don't mention them on our board, have a look at some of their websites.
Mike Franke 05-09-2004, 07:07 PM Thanks for the advice. I will check into all of them, and let you know how it works out.
bheinz57 05-14-2004, 11:17 PM As for the CAI, get a Cobb Tuning one. Very nice fit and finish, inline reusable filter, and sounds awesome. Go to Cobb Tuning's website and check it out. Brian
regista 05-15-2004, 07:00 AM Mike, 2005 will be the last production year for the Baja, Turbo or not.
Peloquin 05-15-2004, 10:04 AM That's still just a rumor. Sure there's a lot of press to support it, but there's been no official announcement that I've seen.
Mike Franke 05-15-2004, 07:03 PM Brian,
That CAI from Cobb isn't too "Boomy" is it? I have installed them before and the intake noise is great revving up and coming down, but at highway speed it would drive you nuts.
Thanks for the tip,
Mike
spacemonkey 05-16-2004, 09:57 PM I've got a kartboy short throw shifter if your interested?
M.S.P.T 05-19-2004, 01:45 PM how about some performance mods for the turbo baja?
need a turbo back system.

Chris N 05-23-2004, 12:40 AM Dave,
you should put one together. The only tough part would be having a down spout on the muffler. The Baja exhaust exits just before the bed ends, hence the reason the muffler tip points downwards.
Or, if you send me a WRX turbo-back(same turbo), I'll massage it so it will fit the Baja-t, then I'll let you know what needs to be done to make it work, ie longer mid-section, different hanger locals, exact bends past the tranny, ect ect. I'm pretty good with the MIG and exhaust.
I'm also thinking dual exit exhaust for the renegade baja owners:devil:
