View Full Version : Four Piston Front caliper / DBA 4000 group buy

Rally Performance
05-13-2004, 10:53 PM
Hello all!

Running a group buy on Subaru Four Piston Front Brake calipers, with pins / clips, etc, and Ferodo DS2500 pads. The price will be $599 for 1-5 people; if we get 5-10 people they will be $589.00;

The DS2500's are a top of the line pad that we like very much- wide range of operating temps while still being very streetable (ie dust/noise). The pads alone run ~ $125, so you can see this is a very good deal.

For Rotors:
We're offering DBA 4000's (4650) for $239/pair (!) These are the real McCoy's - you can read about the quality of these rotors here:

http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/showt...hlight=dba+4000

We'll run this through the first week of June to see how many we have - NO PROBLEM mixing and matching, if someone just wants the DBAs, or just the Calipers, we'll count them as a participant.

Shipping is not included in the price - you'll pay the actual cost of packing and shipping to your location.

For other deals, visit our site at www.rallyperformance.com

The DBAs we're offering are the slotted 4000 club-spec design with the kangaroo paw internals... you can read more about them Here (http://www.dba.com.au/catalogue/pdf/online_pdf/4000_online_160403.pdf)

(PDF file, you'll need Adobe). We think these are the best performance rotor value on the market today, period

Super!

You can put me down for the four pots/ferodos- all ready running the DBA 5000's- super rotors. I can vouch for the DS2500's as well- a great daily driven pad, w/ the temp range to accomodate the occasional track day.

Also sign up KurleeDadee for the four pots/ferodos as wella s a set of DBA 4000's.

Thanks

That's the correct thread outlining their success at the 24 hour Bathurst race w/ one set of rotors!

Calipers are black w/ white lettering- these aren't the 4000 rotors, but good pic of the calipers:

Two options- RS 16X7 rims (or any aftermarket 16X7 rims, actually even many f the rally 15X7 rims as well) OR 5mm spacers w/ the oem 16X6.5" rims- several guys running this combo succesfully. I believe Ken is going to source some 5mm spacers for those that want to run this w/ oem 6.5" wheels.

what might be the effect of running spacers?? wheel bearings, rubbing, etc? I have a wagon, that I'll be lowering. I'm running bigger wheels in the summer, but would like to keep my stockers for the winter. Wish i could afford the brake kit and new winter (or summer) wheels.

Essentially you'd be running a 50mm offset wheel (w/ a 5mm spacer) vs the oem 55mm- as you know many run 48mm et (Rota, Volk many others) w/ no ill effects (my Volk TE 37's are 46mm et).

You may even be able to get by w/ a 3mm spacer- be worth searching, that would be like running a 52mm offset.

Rally Performance

We'll be getting a price on the Eibach 5mm spacers. We're very comfortable with the small spacers, actually - the offset change is minimal, in fact many rally cars run with them.

Yes. You'd want to upgrade to the WRX size rotors (294X24) while doing this- you need only to source the approiate brackets- either through the dealer, junk yard or the classified section here.

You can calculate shipping costs from zipcode 16915. Weight of the calipers are ~ 25 lbs, if you want the 4000 rotors weight ~ 30 lbs.

Big Sky

KenM

There's no brackets to be used in the swap because the 4pot caliper has the bracket built into it. All you need is the wrx sized rotors.

Wohooo! Four bananas:banana:

I'm sure Ken can get you a deal on a rear setup. Ferodo makes the DS2500 for the rear oem caliper (that's what I'm running now). He can get the DBA's for the rear no problem as well. One thing to possibly consider is the "H6" upgrade in the rear- it's a Legacy rotor 290X10mm vs 266X10mm, just need relocation brackets to slightly move the oem calipers. The DBA's can be had in the larger Legacy rear rotors as well.

It's looking good guys.

Guys I've been doing a little digging for those w/ oem 6.5" wheels. It looks like a 3mm spacer is sufficiant to clear the 4 pots. This will alvieate any need for longer studs and they will be much cheaper as well.

You can look at this thread:

That's certainly good news!

Big Sky I have to ask. Where did you get this pic and wth is it. Those are the Subaru 4pots surely enough but those arent the correct pads or rotors(not just not the 4000 rotors, those arent the oem ones either) that are used with them.

Will fit perfectly (the 04 WRX's around the world use this same caliper). Pretty easy- wheel off, disconnect the brake line to the caliper, two bolts on the back of the knuckle and lift the caliper off of the rotor, two bolts (same ones) and the new calipers are on, reconnect the brake line, put wheel back on.

Will give you a call- been gone all week (West Yellowstone:) ).

I've had several guys ask on the calipers w/o the Ferodo pads. Remember, the pads cost ~ $125+, but that isn't directly added to the cost of calipers w/ oem pads.

The oem pads are ~ $60-70 themselves, so you could save a little, but why compromise on pads w/ this kind of setup? Just a thought.

No rears w/ this group buy- just the four pot fronts.

You can calculate shipping costs from zipcode 16915. Weight of the calipers are ~ 25 lbs, if you want the 4000 rotors weight ~ 30 lbs. Ken said he'd only charge actual shipping costs- you should get pretty close w/ the above info.

That price is for the 600 street series, good rotors, but not in the same league as the 4000 club spec ones- these are usually around $300ish /pair. You can go to dba's site and it outlines the different rotors.

55 lbs is pretty close for rotors and calipers. I don't know if businesses (RallyPerformance) get a break on shipping vs you and me, if they do Ken will pass that savings on to us.

Yeah I don't think the 3mm spacers will be very much and no worry about extended lugs like thicker spacers require.

Shoot me a quote for the below setup with the rotors for the front as well. Definitely need new front rotors, rears can wait but if the price is right then I will do the whole thing otherwise it'll be just the front rotors, calipers, etc.
Thanks

Would like a pricing on:
4-pot + pads
3mm spacer
H6 rear upgrade rotors
2-pot rears

If the spacer, 2 pot rears, and H6 upgraded rotors are hard to get, I'll just take the 4-pot + pads ($589 now?)

We now have 6 bananas

Hi folks!

Just wanted to give an update:

All the calipers, pads and rotors have been placed on order as of last week. We had confirmed that the calipers were "in country" and they are, but we were told it would be about two weeks.

We had one member of the group buy who wanted a refund immediately after paying, as we hadn't shipped the complete kit immediately. If anyone else is concerned for some reason, please let us know, but remember: this is a group buy. The reason that we are able to give a price that is so extremely low is because they are a special order item... we run the group buy, and order a batch at a great price. When we run a buy like this, we do make sure that we can get the product quickly, but it isn't an "on the shelf" item.

We'll keep this price open until the brakes ship to us from the suppliers... about another 8 or 9 business days, to my knowledge at this point.

Regards,
Ken

I called and cancelled my order today. Being my first group buy, i don't know if i expected too much, but when the closing date of the offer is the beginning of june, i would expect to have my product before the middle of july.

Now, I understand that these parts come from other vendors and there are issues in transit that pop up, but in every other industry, i've always been kept informed of the status of my order, especially when problems arise. The last post from the vendor to this thread was on 6/30, two and a half weeks ago, and in that they said it would take about 8 more business days for the parts to come in. That would have been around the 13th, and no word one way or the other since then if this was accurate (found out from my phone call parts have still not arrived yet). Plus, numerous people have been hollaring for updates here, but it looks like those requests have fallen on deaf ears.

Bottom line is that I'd rather spend a little more cash and know that i will get my parts when i expected them from a company that puts some effort into their company service then go through this BS. Like many people on this board, my car is one of my main hobbies which i spend a significant (ok, too much) money on, and i know I will never give this company my business again or recommend them to anyone.

- Ed

PS - THis probably means someone else can get in on this group buy. You may be able to get the parts in time to give to a loved one for christmas.

Hi guys!

Sorry about the lack of updates to this thread. I'll be honest: We had an employee who seems to have a mental block about getting onto the forums and posting, even though I thought they were watching this thread. I've taken care of the issue, so hopefully you'll see more of us here (as you should).

On the brakes, here is the situation that we've been facing: Italian vacations. They know how to do it right over there, they close the factory for an entire month and go away... SO, as a result there are simply no Ferodo pads to be had anywhere in the US for about another three to four weeks. Augh.

Here's what I propose:
1.) We can substitute with our other most favorite pad, the Porterfield R4S. The R4S is a great pad for street, and believe it or not for Rally. It holds up to high temps and abuse, performs when hot but is very streetable (When I say abuse, we started trying them when we found Pat Richard uses them on his rally car... he's rougher on the car than many). The cost will be the same.

2.) If you want to source your own pad, we can send you the calipers with no pad, and a $88.00 refund to boot.

Please let me know your thoughts! I think you'll be happy with the Porterfield, from our experience...they just aren't as big of a name as Ferodo.

Anyone else interested in getting into the Group Buy, we can still accomodate - just let us know!

Regards,
Ken

Ken,

Could you put me down for a set of RS4's and a set of R4's as well. Also could you get me a set of 02 WRX rear RS4's- I found out that when upgrading to the "H6" rotors/brackets that the 04 rear pads don't fit and you need the 02 style- evidently the shape of the pad is at least partly dependent on the bracket used.

Thanks:)

I know another guy that wants in, I'll pass the info onto him.

one question....there's a sticker on the rotors that says:

Warning!
This disc rotor is suitable for the Subaru twin (2) piston caliper from year model 2002 on.
(use DBA 4000 for 4 piston and earlier models)

are these the right ones? The boxes do say DBA4650S R/L on them...I wasn't sure if maybe they were for the OEM 2 piston fronts (I guess they'd fit anyway) or for a rear 2 pot setup.

thanks,

Should be the same diameter/thickness- don't know why they'd say that. The 4650's are definitely front rotors. Make sure you pay attention to R/L - they want the veins to go the right way.
