View Full Version : Lan Party: BAM Beatdown
SFsube 03-06-2000, 11:14 AM My software company just moved into our new offices in SF.
Anyone interested in a UT/Q2/Q3Arena BAM Beatdown?
I'll supply the servers, space, gaming PCs, t1, chinese food, pizza, and beer.
Any takers? I'd like to set up a date in advance...
I'm located here:

cheers!
Dan_E 03-06-2000, 02:25 PM I'm in...Not familiar with Unreal, but I'm down for a little Quake III!
STi Sev 03-06-2000, 03:29 PM Unreal tournament is O.K.
but Q3 is the freaking best.
HEY SUBE: make sure u have Quake 3 *Test* version on all the machines!! The real game is tooo freaking slow.
the demo is sooo much better
rrsettgast 03-06-2000, 03:50 PM When is this planned??
Boy, having never played any of these games, I am gonna get smoked.....randy watch out for that apple pie!!! AHHHHHHH
Saw Jai 03-06-2000, 03:51 PM I'd be interested! I don't play UT or Q3...I'm more into team based games such at Starsiege Tribes and Counter Strike for HL...but I don't mind a little bit of DMing =)
SFsube 03-06-2000, 03:51 PM We won't be playing the q3aDemo, sorry... We haven't had any problems with Q3a after the point release...also our inhouse game server is already configured. I haven't detected ping/packet or FPS losses from demo to full...have u?!
The Last LAN party we had went pretty smoothly, we played with some of the guys who designed Diablo and had a total blast. We played against another east coast clan for a couple of hours on public servers and then went pure local server mayhem on each other.
I play a lot of CTF, but we can do whatever...DM, CTF etc....
I'm checking what days are open here...I'm out of town 3/17-19 and at Sears Point on the 3/25th-3/26th....after work perhaps?
cheers!
angus
SFsube 03-06-2000, 03:55 PM I have the WRC review tapes for 97-99...we can check those out as well.
What is better: weekend or weeknight?
STi Sev 03-06-2000, 04:14 PM Ok the point release is cool then...
I have a quake 3 cd so it doesnt matter..
burn a copy for everyone and then ill generate a Q3 key http://208.9.184.110/NonCGI/biggrin.gif

Robert 03-07-2000, 11:22 AM I'll be around this Sunday to Wednesday, so how about we make it an after-hours beatdown? It's been awhile for me, but I'll be sure to bring my whoopin stick.
And no, Sev, I haven't bought a game in years! =)

Lets see...everyone fire off a chinese dish they like and I'll get it delivered (my treat), we can kick off with some food and beers/soda (my treat) and then drop into Q3A for a couple of hours. At some point I'd like to get all of you to feedback on some internet software in development over here.
Depending on how may of us there are, we might be split into different loft spaces, but I'll try and get 10 ready pcs into the engineering area. It won't be a problem. Wherever we set up, we can go for the gusto.
There may be some employees who jump in from their workstations, but everyone here is cool.
I look forward to meeting you guys. Any suggestions, please post them. I'm pretty low key (off track http://208.9.184.110/NonCGI/smile.gif and open for anything that makes it fun.
Parking note: It is easy to get here, and on Sunday, it should be easy to park. I bet there will be an on street spot for a suburban and trailer without a hassle.
I've probably missed something...I'll post with details.

The earlier I know the better.

angus
SFsube 03-07-2000, 06:18 PM It looks like I'll be able to get 12 q3 machines in one big room. I count 10 of us so far...

delectron 03-07-2000, 06:35 PM Sunday at 5pm sounds good. Unfortunately, I don't eat chinese food...
SFsube 03-07-2000, 06:52 PM we can do pizza as well... http://208.9.184.110/NonCGI/smile.gif
Robert 03-07-2000, 08:15 PM Well, I don't think Alex and I will be back from Tahoe before 5pm on Sunday. Can we push it back...late night? Weekday after work?
SFsube 03-07-2000, 08:32 PM I'm pretty open.
Anyone else want to weigh in? Weeknight beatdown over here is possible...

SFsube 03-07-2000, 09:25 PM Good point on the work/school rise and shine.
7pm is cool. I'd like to kick in headphone usage if we play late. Maybe 7-11(12?)
We are getting phone systems installed that access our ether, so we may not bother with Internet play this weekend until the kinks are out, just DM/CTF each other on our local server for bragging rights http://208.9.184.110/NonCGI/smile.gif
7pm? anyone anyone
angus
I would really like to make this. I am willing to leave Tahoe in the afternoon in order to make it.
josh
Robert 03-07-2000, 10:57 PM As long as I get a chance to snowboard in Tahoe, I'm cool. I have no idea how it'll work logistically. I'll let Alex answer for me.
STi Sev 03-08-2000, 12:23 AM Sunday 5:00pm? what do you guys think
but its ultimately sube's decision
Dan_E 03-08-2000, 12:37 AM If its this sunday, is there parking for a Suburban with a small trailor. (I will be coming from san rafael from a weekend gig)
delectron 03-08-2000, 01:23 AM Next wednesday, you mean? We should probably do this on a weekend..
Joe Longworth 03-08-2000, 01:57 PM Damn, that sounds like a helluva lot of Fun. I'll have to see if I can cut out of my duties at GDC.
Has anyone played the infiltration mod for UT?
SFsube 03-08-2000, 03:59 PM see new topic for details.
