View Full Version : New grounding kit
CUNNINGHAM 05-15-2004, 08:49 PM A lot of people do not understand how these kits work or even if they are worth it. I was unsure till I spoke to the guy's at lineage. Mike at lineage knows his stuff.
I just installed a grounding kit on my Subaru. Before installing my Lineage Grounding system. I measured the resistance from the battery to 20 Different locations all the way to the taillight grounds. I also tested the oxygen sensor grounds. I then installed my grounding system per the supplied instructions. Once installed I tested the same grounding points I had tested prior to the install. What I found was amazing the resistance had dropped dramatically . The most noticeable differences were towards the rear of the car, the ECU and the oxygen sensors. I had dropped a maximum 11ohms of resistance. To most people this is not a lot but, to myself being a automotive technician this is significant gain when dealing with today’s sensitive electronics which require precise voltages.
Once installed it was time to drive. I drove the car and immediately experienced a smoother idle, quicker response, and brighter lights. My audio system has actually improved also, my voltage is higher and is more stable. Over a few weeks time I kept a eye on the gas mileage. My mileage improved by 1.5MPG more.
I am going to put one on my wifes car also.

PARANOID56 05-15-2004, 10:11 PM wow, sounds like a sales person :D you konw, you can make them for way cheaper then the 90buck grounding kit that linage makes :D
But good review either way.

hunts 05-15-2004, 11:44 PM I've got a stupid question. Where would the cylinder head and cylinder block be located in our Subarus?
420WRX 05-16-2004, 03:06 AM Paranoid56: Actually.. 4 gauge oxygen free wire with platinum coated ends? You would need some good suppliers to build those cables.
Hunts: Under the hood you'll find this hunk of metal with lots of stuff bolted inside and outside of it. The very central part is called the block, and because we have flat 'boxer' style engines the cylinder heads are on either side of the block. (I think they keep the pistons from falling out, sorta like our heads keep out guts in our bodies.)
PARANOID56 05-16-2004, 04:31 AM Well, let’s see, the 4 gauge wire, is just standard amp wire. And the terminals are "platinum" plated, I think gold is better :D your best natural conductor is silver, then copper, then gold.
People don’t use silver as it does not resist corrosion as well as gold. As for using 4 gauge wire, its a total over kill. You could use 10 ga and would work just as well as that 4ga. geez learn your facts. :D
Thanks

CUNNINGHAM 05-16-2004, 10:35 AM The platinum termainals resist corrosion very well unlike the gold.
As for the wire size 10ga might work, but there must be a reason why they used 4ga.
PARANOID56 you seem to know so much, why don't you make grounding kits?
PARANOID56 05-16-2004, 01:21 PM But, gold resists corrosion better then platinum. they use that only for the "we have platinum in our terminals” factor they are still just standard copper terminals that have been plated, just like the gold ones, and just like every other one out there. As for using 4ga, it’s another sales practice. You don’t need it, but it’s the "look" factor that they are going after, they "could" sell 10ga kits, but then people would not spend 100 bucks on them.
As for making them myself, I do, :D but this thread was not about me trying to sell mine, just trying show the light to other people.

tom@kartboy 05-16-2004, 05:02 PM shanes a good guy
he helps out at our shop all the time

420WRX 05-16-2004, 06:26 PM Hey I stated a fact that you only pretended to disprove.. You'd need a good supplier to make platinum tipped 4ga 100% oxygen free cables. That's all I said. :)
PARANOID56 05-16-2004, 06:48 PM i konw, (if you need 4ga oxygen cables let me know :D ) i just hate to see people wast money on buying one of those $70+ kits. when you can either make your own cheaper, or hit up ebay.
That is all :D
