View Full Version : HID kit for my new O4 WRX Devilprobably 05-17-2004, 07:04 PM shopping around for a HIDs, anyone got any suggestions for a starting point? jac04 05-17-2004, 09:33 PM Search and you will find a lot of information regarding HID retrofits into the 2004. From my experience, do not bother with a retrofit into the existing housings - you will end up with a lot of uncontrolled light. Get the STi HID light assemblies. The install is fairly easy and the beam pattern will be correct. Let me know if you have any questions. -Jeff intence 05-17-2004, 09:57 PM If youre in the market for hid kits then dont get McCulloch's. I'd say get STi headlight assemblies as well. no-coast-punk 05-18-2004, 12:37 AM I just put my Catz H4 kit in my car ('98 RS) and I'm VERY impressed with the quality. Good luck finding a kit sold here in the US though.... Rex_Guy 05-18-2004, 03:47 PM Isnt the Sti HID assembly about $1200?? ScuubyT 05-18-2004, 06:31 PM www.xenondepot.com, very happy with my kit, i can send pics if you want samwY 05-18-2004, 07:19 PM I love how 8000k looks, so I'd recommend those. subaru mike 05-18-2004, 11:49 PM Another vote for 8000k (yes they look blue) -mike intence 05-18-2004, 11:55 PM here of pics of my 8000k mccullochs. too bad one ballast went bad http://members.cox.net/alandang/oh 012.jpg but i would say get 6000-6500k's richy_21 05-19-2004, 12:48 AM Just curious are 8000k mccullochs legal. I live in Va.?? intence 05-19-2004, 07:29 AM no hid kits are legal. Hank3 05-19-2004, 10:10 AM A lot of people who bought McCulloch HID kits have seen ballasts blow one time or another. I've seen four blow out between my brother and a friend on here  intence 05-19-2004, 03:51 PM yea it sucks and the seller who i bought it from doesnt have any type of proof of purchase. HongKongBeef 05-19-2004, 04:39 PM get them from www.xenondepot.com like scubyT or www.xenonfactory.com like me. all philips components. mculloch = crap scoobygator 05-20-2004, 02:16 PM I couldnt agree more with the McCulloch=crap statement. Before I got fed up and pulled them from my EDM's I went through 5 ballasts and 2 bulbs. They worked great when they worked but I was sick of ripping my car apart to replace them. Too bad i bought them through THIS site! intence 05-20-2004, 03:50 PM amen Basshead 05-21-2004, 12:28 AM Mcculloch is no more...they are now called g-garage(but got rights to the mcculloch name) and ship out crap like it's going out of style, tiawanese quality!!...what you don't hear about is that when it was still "officially"called Mcculloch, the company split into 2 companies, one in taiwan and the other in germany. Bohmen is the name of german manufacturer and you get a much higher quality product, good build quality, and as accurate as aftermarket optics get. I have had my h4 hi/low 5000k kit w/ version3 ballasts for the past year with zero problems and a 10 second warm up time...The current version 4 ballasts(which i wish i had) use a intel derived chip to control voltage precisely to the bulb increasing longevity and warm up time...this may sound like a pitch to some, but i did so much damn research a year ago on various hid kits it was the only decent choice i could come up with...I ordered them from www.proxenon.com(ordered tuesday got them on friday) and i even got a free(they might still do it) wiring harness($40 otherwise) that includes relays and fuses and routes all the power from your battery only using the stock wiring to trigger the relays...try finding that from a cheap ass hid place...they even offer customers replacement parts at their cost +shipping... 2 daytime(sorry no night) pics of them on http://basshead.onlineshowoff.com intence 05-21-2004, 12:46 AM good write up, now i know where to purchase version 4 ballasts. did you have to upgrade your fuses to 20A basshead? Basshead 05-21-2004, 02:59 AM no, stock everything, just plugged in one headlight connector into wiring harness and the harness routes power from the battery to the ballast and the solenoid controller for the hi/low "wings" when i go into high beam/flash mode... Jaux 05-23-2004, 01:54 AM Check out IMPORTHOOKUP.com I love their plug n play. I had 8300k and it was blinding upcoming traffic. I switch to 5000k from IMPORTHOOKUP...highly recomend. DieselClown 05-23-2004, 02:44 AM are the retrofit hid's realy that bad? $1200 for the sti hid's is just a little steep now. DieselClown 05-23-2004, 02:45 AM also are the sti hid's with the anthracite housing? |
