I just bought an K40 RD850 off of ebay. I've read the reviews about this unit on www.k40.com. I'm interested in knowing if any of you chaps have this unit and what your opinion of it is. The older model RD650 was reviewed by www.ign.com and got a pretty good rating. Thanks in advance.

I came across the K-40 name while researching my V1 for my STi and prior to that when researching Passport for my VW. IMHO it's a very clever marketing campaign that I couldn't substantiate with any real data/tests. From what I recall they didn't perform all that well in independent radar tests, and are exorbitantly expensive. A local stereo shop wil hardwire a K40 for you (sans laser "jammer") for the $1,500 neighborhood. I'll pay $400 and hardwire my Valentine One myself, thank you very much.
Having said that, I've NO experience with them personally, just reiterating what I'd heard elsewhere.

Here is my opinion,
As far as radars go:
My brother has a V1 and I have a Passport 8500 (non X50). The V1 is slightly better than mine with sensitivity and the directional arrows really help. But the Passport works good enough to keep you safe if you are a respnsible speeder, such as someone who likes to go a little fast on the highway. But if you plan of hul'in ass like 90 plus every were then consider changing your driving habbits.
Over all, the V1 and Passport are effecient enough already to keep you safe. As far as the K40, I'm sure it's good enogh too but its a little spendy.
Hope this helps. I'm planning on selling my 8500 for the new 8500 X50, I hear that it is as good as the V1 now and possibly slighty better.
