I want to buy a guy's accessport, but he doesn't know how to unmarry it. Would somebody please describe the process.
Thank you all.

If he's got the port he should have the manual that tells you exactly how to revert back to the stock and "unmarry" the port.

The way I understand it is, you just have to flash the ECU to the base stock map "revert back to stock" and the Accessport is no longer associated with that ECU.

Also FYI, if you go to cobbs website www.cobbtuning.com under the accessport information you can get a pdf copy of the manual and read it in there. I'm still waiting for mine to come in the mail but that is the way I understand it.

Hope that helps.

I'd have to agree with that. Once the car has been reverted back to the original state, there will be no association with the accessport and your ECU. It's the initialization process in reverse. The instructions are there to help, but if i'm not mistaken, you have to plug together the 2 green test plugs, then plug the appropriate year connector to the semi-transparent plug located next to the test plugs. After that, plug in the accessport and revert back to stock. From there, unplug everything, and it's unmarried, ready to be sold (from my understanding this is the correct way to unmarry it)

from the AP User Guide (p15):

Uninstall
Before attempting to uninstall your AccessPORT, please verify that the Test
Mode and Init Connectors are properly attached before proceeding. These
connections are necessary to make whenever uninstalling your AccessPORT.
(Refer to pages 8-9 for instructions on making these connections)

From the Main Menu, highlight [REVERT TO STOCK] and press the Select
button. You will receive a screen confirming that you will be uninstalling your
AccessPORT from this vehicle. Confirm this by highlighting [OK] and pressing
the Select button. You will be prompted to turn the ignition ‘On’ but do not
start the car. Please the Select button quickly after turning the Ignition ‘On”. A
progress screen will appear. This may take several minutes. The AccessPORT will
be uninstalled from the vehicle once the [AccessPORT DONE] screen is
displayed. NEVER disconnect the AccessPORT from the vehicle when
performing this task until you’ve received the [AccessPORT DONE] screen.

Remember to remove the Init Connector and disconnecting the Test Mode
connectors before driving the vehicle.

Thanks all. I got a copy of the users guide.
Can an accessport that was bought as an upgrade be divorced in the same manner?

Any accessport can be unmarried with the ECU it is associated with so long as you follow the process above.

It's basically a security thing so one of your friends doesn't buy the port and start flashing ECU's for everyone and their brother.

Cobb would be out a lot of money if they allowed that don't you think?

Thats a good question!

Because an AP bought as an upgrade may be associated with a particular ECU since it costs less, but its unlikely Cobb would do this as it seems rather complicated.

Once an upgrade AccessPort is married to an AccessECU reflashed ECU it becomes identical to a normal AccessPort.

Basically it allows the guys who have a reflash already to get to the same point as someone who paid full price without having to pay for the reflash over again.

Alright I need to unmarry my APv2 from my '04 STi in order to update the firmware (apparently my AP is really old...). I remember having to attach the test connectors when installing it, but there are couple of things I need help with.

1) What color are the test connectors? Green? And it is on the drivers side correct?

2) What are the init connector that the user guide (bolded above) is referring to?

3) My AP does not say "Revert to Stock" only "Uninstall"... are these the same, because when I select "Uninstall" it gives me a warning that "Uninstallation will remove all maps."... This doesn't mean it is going to erase all my maps does it?

Thanks

Yes and Yes

The 02-5 WRX's only had the Init connectors

Revert to stock is on the V1 AP's not V2. V2 AP says "Uninstall"

I'm taking a guess at this, but if you can get access to the car and can get power to the ECU and hook up your AP then you should be able to unmarry it. I have no real idea though since I don't have AP yet.

I'm having a similar problem I have an ap1 but will not install. it always gives me the error message that says incorrect ecu halting opperation. Does that mean my ap is still married onto another vehicle?
