Launch at the last light before green.

Or you'll get a 1.2s reaction time like me:huh: :furious:

which is not a factor if your looking for your best et and trap...

ever seen someone site at a light for 5 seconds....yo...(points at self)

I usually stage first and then jump the green light (instead of waiting 5 seconds... hey it's just preference). I feel like jumping the gun gives me better mindset than waiting and seeing the guy next to me launch.

Okay... Well I had a .495 reaction time. 15.200 1/4 running ~88.5 MPH... I thought I wouldn't be slower than 15 seconds... I have Drop in K&N and Uppipe... I swapped out my wheels, and am running a SLIGHTLY smaller tire... Anymore advice? I thought stcok WRX ran 14.7 at sea level... I am at 4200 Ft here too. I did beat the SRT4 though. :D

stocks can run 14.1 (if beat appropriatly) at sea level...

reaction time is meaningless what was your 60' time that is the biggest telling tale of the tape on the WRX.. I'm not sure what the 4200ft elevation affect is but I don't think you should be running 15.2!

Are my slightly smaller tires going to give me a slower time??? Should I throw the stock ones back on for the 1/4 in the future? That is my biggest concern right now...

Depends! Since you have AWD, I will say NO. Your smaller tires will not cause you to have a slower time. In fact, your time should be slighter faster due to shorter gearing from the smaller tires.

What was your 60ft time like? 2.1-2.2 ?

Okay... I was able to run 3 times.. about an hour in between each run...

1st time
r/t - 0.445
60' - 2.150
1/4 - 15.244
MPH - 88.30

2nd time

r/t - .616
60' - Didn't register :(
1/4 - 15.400
MPH - 90.27

3rd time

r/t - .531
60' - 2.145
1/4 - 15.380
MPH - 88.53

ANY HELP will be appreciated. Thanks!

Almost forgot... just for kicks, I plugged the stock BOV return vent, and vented to autmosphere for runs 2 & 3... But run #1 baffles me... slowest 60' time, and slowest overall MPH, but fastest elapsed time... HMM...

Your not all that far off, of what you would expect for a first trip to the drags on a car with minimal mods.

Your altitude correction factor for Salt Lake UT (4400 ft ASL) to sea level times is:

ET x .9783
mph x 1.0206

So you were running sea level equivalent times to a 14.91@ 90.12

Your 60' is about typical for near stock and being new to drag racing in an AWD platform. With practice you should be able to get the 60' down to 2.0x to 1.9x range and probably drop another .1 to .15 sec off the ET.

That's altitude for you ;)

Your first run was actually a very good qualtity run all things considered. Your mph and ET are just about ideal for each other. that is why you got the low ET on that run. You probably hit your shift points just about prefectly on that run, but a better launch would have given you that extra .1 - .15 I mentioned above.

If the car is slowing down each run, you are probably, having heat soak issues or the car is pulling timing slightly due to the stress of the racing environment. To improve your mph, try bumping your tire pressures 2 - 4 psi, most people get best times near 35 - 38 psi. If you can find a source of a good high octane unleaded like Sunoco GT100 put in a couple gallons in 1/4 tank and that should help some too.

Long cool downs can eliminate heat soak but they also cool the engine oil and cool down the turbo housing and exhaust manifolds. If you can start the engine and let it idle for at least 60 seconds to 2 min before your run to get those temps back up a bit.

A 1.9 60' time would have yeilded a good .3 off of your 1/4 mile time. Get the launch down and you are in 14s.
