View Full Version : Cusco turbo heat shield
MK19_ 06-07-2004, 06:31 AM OK, I had the stock turbo heat shield in place, but then I swapped to a V7 STi motor and the stock heat shield hit my VF30's wastegate actuator arm- so I went to the Cusco. Kinda pricey ($70 shipped), but I will say it is a high quality item. Fitament is superb and I have slighty less cabin noise with it. It seems to block more heat and the turbo "area" seems cooler. IMO, for those looking for a heat shield-the Cusco unit is worth the $$$ my .02
wRxbeater11 06-08-2004, 10:21 AM Who sells them? I wanna see what it looks like.
MK19_ 06-08-2004, 10:44 AM I got mine from Adam at Z1 man... it's a really nice piece.

Genya 06-10-2004, 10:45 AM I will second that opinion, worth the cash and the time, makes h/s removal super easy.
MK19_ 06-28-2004, 08:14 PM OK, I have to note this in my review... this weekend, the heat shield has started to rattle- I must admit, it is ANNOYING as hell!!!!!!! Not too sure how I am going to cure this small, yet bothersome, issue.
adamsrs 06-29-2004, 12:29 AM Maybe put some Locktite on the screws that hold it on?
ADAM
Leonardo 08-27-2004, 07:40 PM Was the rattle fixed?
Also, anyone running stock AND Cusco shields together?
KIMUTAKU 08-28-2004, 04:56 AM it only uses the intercooler bolt right??
Leonardo 08-28-2004, 12:20 PM it uses that one plus one more I belive!
Amazake 08-29-2004, 10:29 AM The cusco heatshield works perfectly with the APS heat shield.
Install is extremely easy
finish is nice
As said in combination with the aps shield it blankets everything.
Leonardo 08-30-2004, 12:54 AM Was the rattle fixed?
Also, anyone running stock AND Cusco shields together?
Rickyh 09-01-2004, 03:14 AM I have one on the way. I'll be sure to post here about it. Got to cover up my vf22 ;)
Leonardo 09-06-2004, 11:29 PM I instaled it over the stock cover.
Anyone without the OEM cover?
Genya 09-07-2004, 01:12 AM No rattling here. no Stock heatshield however.
Jason
Rickyh 09-07-2004, 03:01 AM Just put mine in over the stock heat shield. No rattles. The two heatshield combo sure does cut down on heatsoak.
Leonardo 09-07-2004, 05:46 PM cool!
just did it as well with the stocke one underneath
04Flatfour_wagon 09-07-2004, 08:16 PM anyone have pics of the APS shield?
or is this it in the top right corner of the pic (which i think is the bell mouth at the beginning of the dp)

Leonardo 09-08-2004, 09:12 AM Looks like its part of the DP and not a piece by itself.
petawabit 09-12-2004, 04:46 AM you guys think it'll fit over the stock twin scroll turbo heatshield?
Amazake 09-12-2004, 10:29 AM anyone have pics of the APS shield?
or is this it in the top right corner of the pic (which i think is the bell mouth at the beginning of the dp)

that is the aps heatshield
scary huh?
that is why i added the cusco shield to mine.
TheShadow 09-12-2004, 03:54 PM I have the APS and I highly recommend you chop up your stock heatshield or buy an aftermarket one to place over the turbo. The heatshield that bolts onto the iron outlet does nothing to reflect the heat from the turbo.
I hear to install a DP on an STi you have to trim the stock heatshield. would i have to trim a cusco one?
0260B4U 09-23-2004, 09:36 PM anyone have a beter pic of it installed? I cant quite see how it works.
enewtabie 09-23-2004, 09:40 PM http://enewtabie.mypicgallery.com/cuscoenew/picture-085_large.jpg
Installed it last week..nice piece.
0260B4U 09-23-2004, 09:49 PM so its just that little piece?
enewtabie 09-23-2004, 09:53 PM It cups around on the side ..you can't see it because of my IC.
Amazake 09-25-2004, 06:12 PM welll i applied some thermo tec heat shield to the cusco shield and the aps shield
the thermo tec on the aps shield got way to hot and actually burned ( well the glue )in the lowest spot so i removed it
i think a turbo wrap is the best combo for cusco shield owners and aps exhaust or any downpipe that doesn't allow the stock shield to be reused
so does anyone have one with an aftermarket DP on a STI?
48mpg 10-14-2004, 07:51 PM yeah, a helix DP, fits fine, beautiful piece
2.5RSandWRX 10-15-2004, 10:57 AM this is a great peice, especially if you have an aftermarket TBE or downpipe, iyou have to hack the **** out of the stock one
bikeforever01 10-21-2004, 06:39 PM Hey I just installed un Vishnu uppipe and the heat shield i s rattling around because there is no hole for one of the screws on the bottom. Would this be a good solution to my problem?
Z1 Performance 10-22-2004, 11:10 AM this is for the downpipe not uppipe
bikeforever01 10-22-2004, 06:17 PM I know that it is not for the uppipe but this relaces the turbo heatshield and that is what is rattling because the new uppipe does not hav the braket for one screw.
