View Full Version : Intrest in a Central-Ohio meet
RedBrighton96 03-22-2001, 12:50 PM We were kind of talking abotu this in the other thread, but i thought i would start a new one so if someone didn't know we were kind of trying to get one together they would know now. Right now i'm just trying to see how many are interested in having one and suggestions for places to go times to have it, all of that good stuff. I think we're kind of looking at going back down to hocking hills, but that's just an idea right now, nothing set in stone. So let me know if you're interested in having one and where you woudl like to have it, anything like that. Once i get an idea of how many are goign to go, i can finalize some more stuff. I woudl also appreciate it if someone could help me arrange this if we are gogin to have one because i'm not too good at it. So either leave a post here or pm me or e-mail me at vipergt2_98@yahoo.com and let me know if you are interested in going and any suggestions you may have for it. Thanks a lot.
Rob

Charge 03-23-2001, 01:08 AM How far is Hocking Hills from Cincinnati? Sounds familiar, but I'm not sure. If it's a reasonable drive, I'm up for it if work agrees with the dates. Let me know what you come up with.
Neil
RedBrighton96 03-23-2001, 01:08 AM I know you are, i mean other people. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif
I figured it was about time Doug was due for another bath http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif Hey, if no one else wants to, you can still come down, i'm sure we could find some roads to tear up somewhere.
Rob
Neil- Hocking Hills is like 45 minutes to an hour south-southeast of columbus. Kind of inbetween Chillicothe and Athens. So you're looking at around 100 miles i would guess from cinci to there. Not too far.

skuttledude 03-23-2001, 06:47 AM sounds great! I was sorry I missed the last one, sounded like fun. Let's pick a easy place to meet in Columbus and expected time at another place in Hocking Hills. (I meet you in Hocking Hills since its much closer to me)
It'll be nice to get peoples cell phone numbers so we can stay on some kind of schedule and nobody gets left out. I'd be more than happy to make a bunch of copies of maps of Hocking Hills for us in our little voyage.
Let's all stay in touch. Should we keep this thread in the General section or bug the crap out of Imprezer to make us our own OHIO Forum.?!
Anyhow, should be fun!!

SubEd 03-23-2001, 06:49 AM Please give them a forum so we don't have to listen to Austin (oops, Davis http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif) whine anymore! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif

Wherever it is I'm in.
RedBrighton96 03-23-2001, 11:55 AM Ok, so it seems like everyone likes the idea of Hocking Hills so i guess we'll go with that. As for a place to meet in columbus, i would say somewhere on the east side would be a good place since it's more toward hocking hills. Last time we went down there we met at a bob evans, but it looks like we'll have some more people this time so we'll need a bigger parking lot. Eastland Mall is like right across the road from there so how does that sound for a place to meet? I'll get a map or something a in a little bit and post it up here if that sounds like a good place to meet here in the city to travel down together. And I'll try to get a map of the hocking hiolls area so everyone has an idea of where we are going. I do hope that someone that is planning on going has a lot better knowledge of that area than i do because i've only been down there once and i don't want to get everyone lost.
Now, as for deciding a date for this, I'm thinking a saturday would be a good day. And i'm also thinking after easter would be good also and it's been requested of me that i not schedule this on an auto-x weekend so that throws out the 3rd weekend of the month, so i'm going to go with the 28th of April. It will give us a month to get this all figured out and tiem for everyone to fgure out if they can fit it into their schedules and if no one knows the area, time for me to go down one weekend and get it all figured out. But that's all i can think of for now. As soon as i know some more things i will get it posed here and i'll try to get some maps posted soon.
Rob
Count me in....waiting for the REX. Let me know if I can help out with anything.
RedBrighton96 03-26-2001, 08:42 AM BTT
Vice, do you know the Hocking Hills area? If so that would be a great help.
Rob
Kalins1 03-26-2001, 09:25 AM We could have lunch at The Coffee Cup. : ) Yummmmmmm! Or Dee's Diner....Oh wait...that wouldn't taste nearly as good sober.
Well, I driven through it on Rt. 33 about 6,000 times, but I do not know the actual area that well. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to figure out driving routes, etc. Maybe an e-mail to Car & Driver would shed some light on things. Dee's Diner would definitely not be food of choice (being sober of course!)
Kalins1 03-26-2001, 10:36 AM Vice,
Were you driving southbound on 270 last Friday at about 5:30 to 6 p.m.? I saw a white WRX.
I also saw a Blue Ridge Pearl RS on Saturday on Sancus.
Did you guys see that Gary Sheehan had a DNF at the Las Vegas USTCC race? (www.ustcc.com) Darn!
Kalins1
'98 Glacier White OBS
I wish it were me! I'm waiting on my 2002 WRX, and currently drive a 1996 Tacoma (FOR SALE, if anyone's interested.) I see RS's all over in UA, Dublin, etc.
RedBrighton96 03-27-2001, 12:21 PM I'm probably goign to go down to Hocking Hills this weekend and do a little exploring to find out some good routes and places to stop. Any of you Columbus guys want to go with me so atleast someone else will know where we are goign besides me? Just let me know, you're more than welcome to come along.
Plus this will give me an idea of the driving time it takes so i we can get a time set for when to meet here in the city at Eastland mall, and a time down in Hocking in case anyone wants to just meet us down there. I dont want to make this real early because those of you driving down from up north don't want to leave real early i'm sure.
If you would like more info on the area, go to http://www.hockinghills.com it has tourist info and hiking maps and everything.
So if anyone from columbus woudl like to go with me this weekend down to hocking, let me know by sending me an e-mail or a pm. vipergt2_98@yahoo.com
I'll keep you guys informed as soon as i get soem more figured out.
Rob
RedBrighton96 03-27-2001, 10:44 PM Right now it is tenatively scheduled for April 28th, if that will work out with everyone's schedules.
98Gal 03-27-2001, 11:49 PM sounds good ... I'll be there
rpone605 03-28-2001, 01:39 AM TTT
you guys set a date yet?
Kalins1 03-28-2001, 07:19 AM Hey guys....this is way off topic but I may not make it down there unless I get my timing belt changed.
Has anyone in central Ohio had their timing belt changed for less than $370?? The belt itself is only $40 so I can't understand why it costs so much to change. I would even do it myself if I had confidence I could get the thing timed again. I heard Subarus were difficult to time.
Thanks guys! Please help me make my Subie and my wallet happy!

Kalins1 03-29-2001, 02:59 PM Sorry Rob.....my significant other has me busy.
RedBrighton96 03-29-2001, 08:18 PM That's too bad. I'd hate to have to go by myself and have to talk to myself the whole way down. Anyone else like to go down with me saturday?
Rob
RedBrighton96 03-30-2001, 01:19 AM Any of you Columbus guys want to go down to hocking hills with me this saturday to scout the area? Let me know if you're interested.
Rob
RedBrighton96 04-02-2001, 11:48 AM Ok time for an update. I went down this weekend to Hocking Hills to do a little scouting. Found a nice way to get down there on a very fun road. Also had the chance to try out a little rallying on a road down there too. Also very fun.
But anyway, Here's the plan.
For anyone from around the city or coming down from up north, we're going to meet at Eastland Mall at 10am. It will be out front right by the road so anyone coming can easily find us. There are also a couple of gas stations right around there if anyone needs to fill up before we head off. I'd say we'll probably leave the mall at like 10:30 or 10:45, or whenever everyone that is planning on goign gets there. That will give enough time for any stragglers to make it and if anybody wants to run and get gas they can. And then we will leave there and head south on Hamilton Road until we hit 33 and we will take that all the way down through Lancaster and down to the Hocking region. Now depending on how many cars we have, we will probably get split up in Lancaster at some of the lights there so once we are through the town, i'm going to pull off somewhere that is big enough for all of us so if anyone is caught behind a light, they can catch up. I dont' want to lose anyone. Especially down there. Once we are all through Lancaster we'll get back on 33 and keep going south until we hit come to 374. And then we'll take that down to Old Man's Cave. 374 is a very fun road to drive, lots of twisties and hills and nice scenery. And whoever wants to just meet us down there at Old Man's Cave can, if they are coming from cincinati or anyother area down that way. I would say we'll make it down there by around noon. Once there, we should be able to get some spots in the parking lot, it was fairly busy when i was down there this weekend, but there was still some open ends of the parking lot we can take over. And then we can go walk on some of the trails and look at some of the scenery around if you would like. The also have grills there at the park and if anyone would like to bring a little portable grill i wouldn't see where that would be a problem. Also In the town of Logan about 12 miles away there is a McDonalds, Wendy's, Rax, KFC, Little Caesars, and some other various places to eat. So if everyone would rather eat at a place like that, we can go there. And i don't know when you woudl like to eat. We can eat when we get there, or we can stop and meet for a while and then go eat, or we can eat right before we leave. It doesn't matter to me. And then if you want to go otu for a little drive, there is a loop of raods we can take that would be a couple of miles of twisties and it would put us back at Old Man's Cave. And there are other attractions down there that we can stop at if you woudl like to. They all have nice trails to walk on and stuff like that. It all depends on what you guys would like to do. And then when we are done, we'll just head back up 374 until we hit 33 and go back the way we came. And then i dont' know if you all just want ot go back home then or hang around in the city or what, but if so, depending on the time, we could probably go out to dinner somewhere if you woudl like. Also if anyone needs a place to crash for the night if they don't want to drive home, i've got a couch and an extra bed and you're more than welcome to stay at my apartment. I'm not the best host in the world, but it's cheaper than a motel.
That's about all i have to add right now. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at vipergt2_98@yahoo.com, or pm me here, or if you would rather talk to me, call me at 614-279-3431.
Rob
Edit: Forgot to add directions to Eastland Mall.
For those of you coming from up north, the easiest way to get there would be to take 71 S to 270 E and on 270 you want to get off at exit 37 and get on to Hamilton Road south or 317, i'm not sure which it is called, but it's the same road, and stay on that for a couple of miles and you will come to Eastland Mall on the right, i'll try to get there early so you can find me, but if i'm not there yet, just wait out front somewhere and i shoudl be there shortly.
For those in the city, get off on Hamilton Road(317) off of 70, and it's less than a mile on the right.

RedBrighton96 04-02-2001, 11:51 PM I'm doing pretty good Dane. Good to see you are hanging in there. Get in contact with Ryan and those guys from up there about when they are leaving and where ot meet up there and stuff before you come down here. Looking forward to seeing you at the meet.
Neil, keep me informed.
Hey, does anyone know if Doug is planning on going. I'm sure he'd love to go back down there. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif
I'll try to get a map posted sometime in the next few days of the general area of where we will be and also one of where the mall is that we're going to meet at first for you guys comign down from up north.
As soon as you guys know for sure if you're going or not, try to let me know so i know how many to expect. Just post on here and let me know and as the date gets closer i'll put up a list to make sure everyone is accounted for.

98Gal 04-03-2001, 02:14 AM Yep I'm going. It's going to be about a 3 hour drive from here to the mall, but I checked out the hocking hills web site. Definatly looks like a kewl place http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif . I have my map to get to the Eastland Mall all ready to go.
If anyone from Pa is interested in following me or meeting up along the way ... let me know. I'm going to be taking i-79 S to i-70 W and shoot straight there. I'm going to be leaving my area around 7am.
rpone605 04-03-2001, 06:57 AM I told Doug about the meet and he said he can't make it due to a work conflict.
Sara...we can meet up and you can follow me down I know the way out there from my neck of the woods.
Kalins1 04-03-2001, 07:19 AM What day are you guys talking about?? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
RedBrighton96 04-03-2001, 09:11 AM It is Saturday April 28th. Meeting at Eastland at 10. Departing from Eastland 10:30-45 arriving in hocking hills around noon.
Looks like we should have a decent turnout for this one.
Too bad Doug can't go. I know he loves the rivers down there so much. Mabye next time.

Lifino 04-03-2001, 03:26 PM Hello hello, sorry I haven't piped in yet, I was out of town, then didn't have the chance to stop by the club...
Anyway, I'm going to try to be in! I've got to get better half approval, but I'm about 80% right now. I'll know better tonight.
Hocking sounds great. I'd like to find some gravel down there, but with too many cars it might not be so fun... Twisty pavement will work.
As for food! If the majority decides they want to do a BarBQ deal let me know. I've got Sam's Club membership I can hook us up with some good steak, cheap(now that was a prime example of 'Merkin gramer) I'd just need a good faith agreement that I'd get reimbursedhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif But I'll also say that I don't have a portable grill, and I won't carry one in my car. I'd say your kinda dumb to put a used one in your car too, but that's your call... I'm still happy to bring some meat, and veggies. Maybe do some Kabobs!
Let me know.

RedBrighton96 04-08-2001, 06:10 PM I ran over to Eastland mall yesterday to get a more specific place to meet for those that are planning on meeting me there at like 10-10:30. We'll meet in front of Lazarus somewhere, there is a little overflow area there right as you turn in and i think i'll just be there, it's right by the road and easy to see. For those of you coming from up north, the place to turn for the mall is the 4th light i believe after you go over I-70. Right by the Big Eastland sign. And i'll be there on the left or somewhere right by where you turn in. If i'm not there yet, i will be shortly.
I believe there was someone that wanted a map of the area around Hocking hills of where we are going to meet. Here it is
<IMG SRC="http://www.hockinghills.com/maps/m_county.jpg" border=0>
We will be meeting at Old Man's Cave around noon, probably a little after, it depends on when the caravan from up north gets here and when we get on our way down and of course traffic.
Right now, this is the list i have of people that are sure they are going or very sure they are going.

Lifino 04-11-2001, 06:00 PM Glad to see an WRX or two coming along. Swoop, first, welcome to the club. Next, read all the post if you like, but we're going to the Hocking area. Likely meeting spot in Hocking will be Old Man's Cave, there should be about 12 cars there. Then relax and hang out, hopefully do a little driving on some vacant roads. Perhaps turn off onto some gravel?
Since this thread has come up again, I'll toss it out. Rob had suggested a picknick style thing at OM'sC. He says that they have those grill on a stick things there too. I was wondering, Is there any interest in doing a Bar-B-Q?
I've got a Sam's Club membership and can get chicken and steak cheap, good stuff too. Plus chips and soda(only one type though, it comes in flats of cans, coke products, and I don't think I can mix).
I'm happy to go and get the stuff, I just need enough people to say "Yeah!" and some hope of getting paid back.
Feed back?
Thanks

RedBrighton96 04-11-2001, 09:37 PM Just to make sure everyone is clear, the meet is the 28th.
I talked to Ryan some today and i think that they (the people coming from up north) are planning on pitching in and gettign some food to bring along too so sometime before the meet we shoudl figure out who's bringing what so we don't end up with a thousand hot dogs and one hamburger and 13 cases of caffiene free diet mountain dew http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif
We've got three weeks, no big rush.
Any of you columbus guys, i'm always open to doing a little driving on the weekends, so if you ever want to get together, just e-mail me or give me a call at 378-5723 and leave me a voice mail or something.
See you guys at the meet. Actually, if anyone has any questions or concerns they want to bring up and would rather talk with me directly, feel free to call me or leave me a message, (614 area code).

Kalins1 04-11-2001, 10:14 PM Hello! I'm on vacation right now so I haven't been checking the board regularly. I got my timing belt changed at Byers on Billingsly. They gave me a pretty huge discount but I'm not sure why! I think someone that works there has a '98 Rally Blue RS w/ a turbo and the WRC graphics painted on the side. It has Licking County tags. Looks like they have one 2001 RS left. I fell in love with the black WRX wagon! Woohoo! I can't wait to see that blaze yellow WRX, Swoop!
I saw a couple of RSs in the shop while I was there. One was a black '98 and the other was a BRP '00 or '01.
Unfortunately, my car isn't going to be as clean for the meet as I would like it to be. I'm not really supposed to get my burnt hand around cleaning chemicals.
Rob, we will be heading straight down to the Hocking Hills. We will most likely be taking an alternate (more twisty) route than 33. We'll be taking 56 from Circleville. It is a fun drive and part of it is used by Car & Driver.
So, see you guys there. If I need to bring anything down let me know.

Just let me know. My cell phone number is somewhewre in this post if you want to get in contact with me.
Rob
Lifino 04-18-2001, 08:51 AM Sure.
Kalins1 04-18-2001, 10:00 AM Rob and Silas,
Do either of you guys want to stop by Byers and see if the tech who owns the turbo RS wants to go? I don't think he is a member of this board. He had Licking County plates so I know that he either works at Byers or is just from around here. Every time I have been to the lot, I have seen the car there. It is BRP with the yellow WRC graphics painted on it. It has an extra little bubble on the hood to compensate for the turbo or supercharger.
Is Byers giving us I-Clubbers a discount? They gave me around 10% off.
Sean
Lifino 04-18-2001, 10:07 AM I didn't hear aboout the 10% that is cool.
I might try to stop out there this weekend. It's a little out of my way but less driving than it is for you Sean. Rob, what'cha say? Me or you?
I saw a Black Sedan driving around Grandview last week(I think you saw this same guy Sean) I tried to stop him and invite him, but I was in my Fiance's Beetle and he just thought I was waving. He looked older, like late 40s, grey hair, and didn't have too much of the enthusiast look... I also saw a girl in a coupe out at Easton, ended up right behind her for a few blocks(not by my doing) but she didn't so much as give my car a second look... Oh, well. I'm just not cut out for this reqruiting work.
-Silas
Sean, do you remember the guys name? Or just go in and say I NEED to talk with the dude with the turbo!
narcotix 04-18-2001, 10:52 AM Hey guys, I was at Byer's this past weekend and saw the dealer with the 2.5RS coupe in the 555 paint. He was sellin' the last black wagon (auto...or I would have taken it!) to some older guy who was also raving about the STX. Didn't get his name, but he told me his coupe had a Minax (sp?) huffer under the hood (which you can see from the inlet) and a custom carbon fiber bulge to clear the blower.
Anyways, I think the guy ended up buying the wagon and then the black auto sedan was being sold on Monday to a younger dude. I went in that day to get a copy of my deposit (which was $2000!!).
Just a heads up.
Kalins1 04-18-2001, 11:08 AM There you go Silas. Look for the knowledgeable salesman. Ha ha! I never thought I would put those two words together! What a dichotomy of terms!
When are you getting your wagon, Narcotix?
narcotix 04-18-2001, 11:21 AM .....in 5-7 weeks. Slashing off the calendar boxes as I go...
Man, the wait is intolerable...I wish I could just go to sleep for about 5 weeks and wake up to a phone call by the dealer sayin' my car is in. Arghhh...
And please, if you see a black 5 speed wagon in 5 weeks, don't take her out for a test drive before I get a chance!!!! I wanna pop the cherry on her first!
RedBrighton96 04-18-2001, 11:37 AM I'll try to make a trip up to Byers in the next few days and see if it's up there and if it is, see if i can talk to him and see if he's on the board and all of that and if he wants to go to the meet.
I've actually never seen that car around, i'm goign to have to keep an eye out for it. It would be great if we could get someone with a turbo to go to the meet. Anyway, if anything turns out from my trip i'll let you know.
Silas, we can figure out what we're going to do as soon as they know what they're doing. I'll probably be free most of this weekend and then anytime in the early afternoon next week between school and work.
Rob
Kalins1 04-18-2001, 12:27 PM I was just thinking that if we form a relationship with this guy, we'll get discounts at Byers. He is obviously a Subaru nut.
RedBrighton96 04-18-2001, 12:33 PM Yeah that would be cool, especially if he could get us deals on service and stuff because mine's coming up on 90k and i need want to get it services right and have everything done that needs to be and from what i hear it can run upwards of $500 and that just sucks.
Mabye we shoudl all keep stopping in and talkign to him until we get him on the club http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
Rob
Lifino 04-18-2001, 06:08 PM Rob, that sounds fine. But most weekdays I'm not free until around 6:00... We can figure it out then though.
As far as Byers, Are you going Rob? If not I will try to make the trip out there, I just need to know if I should loby to get that into the schedule for this weekend.
I've seen the car around. The first time I saw Dane's car I thought it was him, but he wasn't in town any of the times I'd described. I see the guy everyonceinawhile and I try to flash my lights but he never responds... Hopefully he'll be up to the trip down to Hocking, and if not perhaps he'd be willing to trade cars for the day!
It'd be cool to get someone at a dealer a little more involved, they would be able to spread the 'I-club' word far and wide... Put up posters, open up their rollodex...
Anyhow, I'll talk to you later
-Silas
litespeed 04-18-2001, 07:42 PM I'm coming along as one of the two cars with Paul Carpenter (XMetal) and driving my 98 RS, black with gold rims. Sounds like a good time. Thought you'd like to know that up here in Cleveland we have a local sports news monthly called "North Coast Sports" and they have a cool article about the Hocking Hills area. Sounds like good hiking and exploring and lots to see. Limited resources for food so stock up on snacks and stuff. Some of the trails sound kind of technical so boots or running shoes might be in order too. I know you Columbus guys probably already have it all scoped out, but I found it interesting having never been there. Looking forward to it. I'll bring the article and we could use it for reference or if someone wants to go explore on their own. Just hope this miserable Ohio weather warms with no rain. See you at Eastland if all goes according to my plans.
RedBrighton96 04-18-2001, 09:50 PM Silas, i had to check my schedule and it doesn't seem like i'm gogin to have a whole lot of free time this week to try and make it up to Byers, so if you want to go, go ahead. If i can find the time i'll probably go up anyway because i haven't been up there for a couple of weeks and want to check out the lot and mabye talk to some of the salesmen. All depends on my mood. I can probably find some time this weekend, if not, depending on how late they are open i might be able to make it after work one night. It might just be easier for you to just go by yourself so we don't have to worry about the time constrictions.
I know there are a lot more RS in columbus than on the board, i see them a lot but never get any response. I left a note on a car at Tuttle mall, but i have yet to hear from him. I did get a guy at work to get on here and i talk to him every now and then at work. He was going to go next weekend, but his parents are in town that weekend from Florida so he can't blow them off.
Hocking Hills is a lot of fun and yes i woudl suggest some comfortable soes for waking, perhaps some hiking boots if you want to do a lot of walking. I hope the weather works out too, it seems like it's goign to warm up again, but who knows how long that will last. Hopefullly it is sunny and warm, making for some great driving weather.
Rob
Kalins1 04-19-2001, 01:07 AM Yeah, when I picked up my OBS, I asked a kid in the shop who owned the turbo RS. He just looked at me and said that he didn't know but it was fast.
I know there are tons more RS owners in Cols. than are on here because there were quite a few RSs in the shop. Only one OBS was there but it had Florida tags.
Storm 04-19-2001, 08:10 AM Add me to the list. LITESPEED...PM me as well as RYAN to maybe setup a departure time. Since I'm in the neighborhood an'all http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif. I can't decide if I should bring my MTB or not...anyone else planning on it?
Later,
Jay Storm
Kalins1 04-19-2001, 08:50 AM Storm,
I probably wouldn't bother with the mountain bike. The part of the Hocking Hills we will be in do not have any riding trails. About ten to fifteen minutes in either direction though, you'll find an advanced trail at Tar Hallow and an advanced trail in Wayne National Forest. Wayne will cost you $5 to ride. I normally ride at Tar Hallow, but won't be bringing our bikes. I figured we would just hike.
Look forward to seeing you guys down there!
Sean
Kalins1 04-19-2001, 08:52 AM Last night I think I saw an RS chasing a modified Civic down an entrance ramp onto 315 from Bethel Rd. It was a BRP RS with a visor sticker. I figured they were coming from Passen Motorsports.

Do either of you guys want to stop by Byers and see if the tech who owns the turbo RS wants to go? I don't think he is a member of this board.
Which Byers are you guys talking about? If you're referring to the one in Dublin, the guy who owns that car is named Chad (I think). He used to build bicycles for me down at Grandview Cycle on Fifth (which just closed last week).
RedBrighton96 04-19-2001, 11:02 AM That's the one i think we're talking about.
Hey AudiGuy, are you coming to the meet on the 28th?
AudiGuy 04-19-2001, 11:28 AM Don't know if I'll be able to yet. I'm getting beaten down by work. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif. Though I should tell you, back when my wife had the Miata we took a drive through Wayne National Park down there in the Hocking Hills. The twisties were amazing. I honestly don't remember the route we took though. I just pulled out the Rand McNally and picked a good loop-like route. It was gorgeous though. I'll talk to her and see if she's up for it. She's due on June 8 so her ability to keep things down in the turns is precarious. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif Don't want any upchucking in the RS! Now, if I could get someone with a WRX to let me drive it ... maybe I'd be truly convinced. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
[This message has been edited by AudiGuy (edited April 19, 2001).]
Lifino 04-19-2001, 09:22 PM Okay, I've gotten clearance to go out to Byers. I plan to go sometime on Saturday... The important thing is which one are we talking about? The one out west is what I though we were talking about, but now I realize that it could be the one off of Sawmil... Sean? I thought you said you got your work done out West, something about you didn't mind the extra driving. Plus when I was looking for my car I went to the one on Sawmil a number of times and there weren't any 2.5s in the lot, let alone a hopped up 555.5
AudiGuy? You say Grandview Cycle closed! Wow, that's like three blocks from where I live... I guess I haven't been going out that way lately, that is a shock. Anyway, you should try to find a way to come to Hocking.
BTW, I saw a silver RS Sedan today, I matched speed with him and had to honk like four times before he even looked over at me. The guy gave a little wave and went about cleaning his glasses... I was sort of dissapointed, both in his response, and in the fact that I am becoming a total freak about these cars.
-Silas
Kalins1 04-20-2001, 07:39 AM Silas, we are all freaks because we drive Subies. Ha ha. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
Yes, I was talking about the Byers on Billingsley Rd. (off Sawmill). The salesman that owns it probably doesn't work everyday because they work on weekends too. I saw the car there on two of my visits but not on the third. It is a very nice machine. The 555 graphics are painted on and not stickers.
That is a shame about Grandview Cycle! Looks like I will have to exclusively use Bike Warehouse now. Is Grandview Cycle having a huge going out of business sale?
Anyways, I was thinking about gravel roads and the only two gravel roads that I thought would be fun to drive because there wouldn't be any chance of cops are in Athens. One is a back road to Dow Lake and the other is a forest access road behind Chauncey.
There is a great access road close to where we will be but with the rain the way it has been I doubt you guys will want to take your RSs on it. It gets VERY muddy and can have decent size ruts.
Sean
Lifino 04-20-2001, 08:02 AM That access road sounds cool. It depends on the weather, and, uh... Well my 'Codriver' gets on my case for going through an intersection too hot, I'm not sure if she'd be up to sliding around a back country road...
I'll go up to Sawmill on Saturday... Just hope he's up there.
-Silas
RedBrighton96 04-20-2001, 11:26 AM AudiGuy, keep me informed on the status of you going. I hope you can go, it's a lot of fun down there to drive and it is very beautiful. Of course, i dont' know if we will be able to do a whole lot of driving other than going down and coming back because we're getting a pretty good turn out for this and it would probably be easy to lose someone down there. So we'll see abotu that. Looks like 17 cars or so so far. Pretty good.
Silas, still no word from the guys up north yet about what their little meeting last night turned out so i'm still waiting for that.
Hey, i'm up for a little mudding on an access road, sounds like fun.
Rob
Kalins1 04-20-2001, 11:27 AM Silas,
Yeah, if I try to take the twisties and turnies too fast, my co-driver will yack. I haven't taken her on the access roads yet. Actually the last time I drove them was two years ago chasing my friend in his Nissan pickup. He thought it would be funny to see me get stuck on the access roads. I had the last laugh. He was the one that got stuck. Of course it took me weeks to get all the red clay mud off my car. White paint stains!
Lifino 04-20-2001, 06:40 PM Funny, I want to put a shine on before the meet. But at the same time I would like to get dirty on the weekend...
Rob, if you mean food, okay. It's no real rush... I could just get chips and soda and leave it at that, there's plenty of Wendy's and McD's and what not. But, realy all I need is some input from up north before I go, if they say bring chicken and stuff that's cool too. But once I get back from Sam's forget it.
My Fiance said she may not go next weekend. Kinda sucks, I was hoping to have her along, but she is taking a negative automobile attitude lately. I wonder what she'll say when I tell her what I want to do with my tax return?
I'm off to wander the board.
-Silas
RedBrighton96 04-21-2001, 02:13 PM Yeah i ment food. I think just getting some chips and soda would be fine. And i'm sure everyone will pitch in some to cover the cost. I think they were planning on getting like real food and bringing it down from up there, but i'm not real sure. So i'd say just get some snack foods and some soda. And like you said, if they don't wind up bringing anything, Logan has a bunch of places to eat.
One week to go!! Definately looking forward to this. Now lets just hope the weather is kind to us. I'm going to start keeping an eye on it to see what they're calling for. Right now the prediction is sunny with a high of around 65. Sounds pretty good to me. See you guys there.
Rob
Lifino 04-21-2001, 04:13 PM Okay, I spoke with Chad. Nice guy. Duh, I go out there on a Saturday to ask a guy if he can go driving on a Saturday? He said he was interested and that he'd ask his boss if he could have the day off. Dude is serious about his car and the plans he's got for it, very cool story.
Yeah, I'm hoping the weather is nice. At least a few days of good weather before we go so I can clean up the car...
I will probably go out to Sam's tomorow. I'm just going to pick up some chips and Coke(regular, they come in flats so there isn't going to be any variety->what ever is left over I've got to beable to drink)
-Silas
Charge 04-21-2001, 04:27 PM Sounds good Silas. I'm sure people would be willing to reimburse you!

Lifino 04-23-2001, 05:56 AM I'll call Chad this week and see what he says.
I got a bunch of chips last night(individual bags), and a flat of Coke.
Looking forward.
-Silas
rpone605 04-23-2001, 06:57 AM ok...the question is.
should we bring food or just plan on hitting a restaruant??
Kalins1 04-23-2001, 07:04 AM Wuz up fellas? That great that you found Chad, Silas! I hope he gets to go. Any kind of relationship we can form with a dealer would be good for us!
I was washing the car yesterday with my new Simoniz brushless car wash system. It was working great until my fiancee's spicket gave out and drenched me. We were running around trying to find her water cutoff and then worked until midnight fixing the spicket! Arghhh. I didn't get to scrub my wheels with my new wheel scrubber! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif
So, my poor baby won't be waxed but at least she'll be somewhat clean. I'm sure she isn't nearly as clean as most of your rides. I just don't seem to have the time anymore. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif
Oh yeah, did you guys see the Subaru 2+2 concept on the Eta Tauri site? http://www.iwoc.co.uk/newage.html
It should be very interesting! Subaru is really putting their GM R&D money to good use!
Later,

cminch 04-23-2001, 09:38 AM add me to the list. craig (cminch) if everything goes well I'll be there.
RedBrighton96 04-23-2001, 09:42 AM My car is filthy. I hope i can find time this week to get it cleaned. I also have to ge thte oil changed and see if the little leak i have is because they didn't put a new crush washer on it last time i had it done. I'm gogin to make sure they do this time. It is a real slow leak, but it's leaking right on my exhaust and it smells bad once it heats up. But anyway, i shoudl be able to get it cleaned this week so it looks half decent. It will let me get all of the dirt off that is covering all of the chips in the paint. Make it look really good. But i have to say i do love the color when it is all clean and shined up. Good old "ticket me red". Brilliant red really, but as of easter weekend, it was ticket me red. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif
Anyway, about food. Silas got some chips and soda. So we'll have some snacks. I kind of think that it's up to you guys if you want to bring food and have a little cook out. It might just be easier to go hit up a resturant because there could be a lack of grill sopen and it might take a while to cook it all. Plus they have a lot of resturants there. I'll look tonight and giveyou guys a list of where there is to eat and you cna decide if you woudl rather eat at a resturant, or have a cook out. EIther way i woudl hope everyone woudl be willing to pitch some money in to reimburse Silas for what he got. I'll get a list of resturants as soon as i get home.
Rob
Edit: Hey AudiGuy, are you going to the meet on saturday?
[This message has been edited by RedBrighton96 (edited April 23, 2001).]
Kalins1 04-23-2001, 10:00 AM Yeah, if Silas needs reimbursed, I'd be happy to help him out. As for restaurants, I know the usual fast food joints are in Logan. I think they have a Bob Evans too. If you are adventurous and want to go to Nelsonville which isn't too far away, there is a great place called The Coffee Cup. It is a small restaurant that makes really good and cheap home cooked food.
RedBrighton96 04-23-2001, 12:16 PM Yeah, like Sean said they have the usual fast food places. Here's a list of all of the places that streets & trips has listed to eat.
Norm's Deli
KFC
Bush's Resturant
Wendy's
Home Tavern
Subway
Rax
Colonial Inn Resturant
Shelby's Cafe
McDonalds
Dairy Queen
Old Dutch Resturant
Bob Evans
Pizza Crossing
Roxy's Pizza
Bob's Pizza House
Little Caesar's Pizza
Sportman's Steakhouse
THey are all right in Logan or very close which is about 10-15 minutes i would say away from old man's cave. So it's up to you guys, if you would rather just find some place to eat and just munch on the chips and soda when we get there that's fine, or woudl you rather bring some food and have a little cookout? It doesn't really matter to me. And if you want to get some food to cook and get it in columbus, you might want to try to get down here a little earlier so we can still make it down there relatively close to the planned time. Or if you want, i can tell those that are planning on meeting us down there to just make it a little later so they dont; have to wait around. I'm totally open to suggestions so just let me know what you guys think.
Rob
Lifino 04-24-2001, 01:29 AM Coffee Cup rocks! Old Dutch is good too, great place to get a load of country cooking.
The most recent count looks like about 20 people! As far as kick-backs, you will pay more for a half gallon of gas than you will for what I got. What I got:
1) Giant, institutional size bag of Dorito's, with Gonzo style cheese. I don't know how to pay for these so don't you worry about it.
2) Little lunch box bags of chips, decent variety. These come to $.25 a piece.
3) 1 Flat of regular Coke Classic. These come to $.25 a piece. Coke, that's it, if you don't like it bring something else. Sorry, but Sam's only sells by the Flat, and I will only drink Coke, and since I'm stuck with what ever is left over I'm bringing what I want to drink. At 20 people it'll only be about 1 per head, so keep that in mind as you pack your CDs and stuff.
I'm not trying to make any profit here, I'm going of the per unit prices here, but I think the chips averaged out to like $0.237.
If one flat doesn't sound like enough, scream at me and I'll think of trying to find a time to make it back out to Sam's Club. If I go back I'm still willing to pick up some meat, but I think chips and Soda with a trip to Wendy's is easiest.
Speaking of half a gallon of gas; Isn't it funny how we all bitch and moan about paying $2.67 for a gallon of gas, but at the same gas station we'll go and get like 8 FL OZ of Mountain Spring Water and pay like $1.39!! I mean WATER for like $5.00 a gallon! for F-ing WATER! Us 'Merkaan's'r sortsa dumb sometimes.
Allright, Toodaloo,
-Silas
xMetal 04-24-2001, 09:33 AM it would seem that aside from snack stuff, going out to a restaurant would be the best solution. Nobody wants to tote around perishable meet/BBQ stuff/etc.
I say that we find a good restaurant and grab some grub there.
Charge 04-24-2001, 09:55 AM I agree. I don't think we want to go through the hassles of cooking, however, if someone wants to, no reason we can't split for lunch. 20 people is a large group to get to agree on one thing. I say we just figure everyone will decide what they want when it comes time to eat. We'll do whatever that is, then continue on(or re-group if need be).
Neil
RedBrighton96 04-24-2001, 07:48 PM I think the just bring snacks idea is what we're going to go with. It seems a hell of a lot easier than bringing stuff to cook and wouldn't take as much time as just goign out to eat. Plus it would give us an opprotunity to invade Logan with our group. So i would just say bring what you would like to snack on if there is anything in particular you want and we'll figure out when everyone gets hungry when we want to eat and we can probably split up, it would be easier that way and then meet back somewhere. I figure between all of us we are gogin to have quite a few cell phones so we can keep in contact. I would suggest bringing some paper and writing them all down so everyoen has them or can store them in their phones or whatever so they can nbe reached.

Kalins1 04-25-2001, 07:12 AM My fiancee wants to pack a picnic, so I won't be joining you guys for the restaurant adventure....unless of course it is raining.
Hey...just a thought, but if the main parking area of Old Man's Cave is too packed, we could all go further down the road to Conkle's Hollow. It has a huge parking area...some of it is grass. It also has a great trail around a gorge.
RedBrighton96 04-25-2001, 08:55 AM Yeah i was kind of wondering about the parking thing. But it seems like the parkign lot was pretty big and it was fairly busy when i was down there, but there seemed to be ample parking. If not, Conkles Hollow is jsut down the road and it is fairly big as Sean said.
I hope Chad goes and everyone else. Only three days to go. Can't wait. Hope it's nice out.

Kalins1 04-26-2001, 07:22 AM Bad news folks. I have developed a squeek in my car when it is rolling or under low power. It seems that when I get over 20 mph it goes away. I need to find out what it is before Saturday because I don't want to drive large distances with the threat of a bad wheel bearing or something like that.
Anyone have any ideas what it could be?
Lifino 04-26-2001, 07:36 AM Man that sucks.
It does sound like a bearing, but then, what do I know?
I know I can save you a trip to the Yellow Pages; 792-2455, that's Byers on Billingsley. Good luck, hope you can make it this weekend.
BTW, I spoke to Chad yesterday, he's still talking to his boss. There is someone else at Byers who wants to come along too, perhaps as a ride along... They found the I-club while at work and wasted a ton of time whil on the clock. Quickly became true I-club members...

Well, it wasn't me, though I work right around the corner from Franklin (at Fifth and Fulton).
AudiGuy 04-26-2001, 11:32 AM Hey, Silas,
Were you driving on Front Street just past the Brewery District today (4/26) at around 11:30? I saw a 4-door debaged black RS and thought it might be you.
Homer 04-26-2001, 11:50 AM No kidding?!?! I made it past the intersection and thought I saw an RS, checked my mirrors and saw you pulling out, looked like you'd turned onto Front. I slowed down to like 15-20 and pissed off the cars behind me, but you didn't catch up!
IE, yeah I saw you, yeah that was me.
Sharp looking car. Clean. I'm going to have to clean my car tonight... Gotta say I love having a driveway and garage. I can clean my car at home now. It's so nice. Used to live on campus where I parked on street and had to go to the DIY high pressure places. Those things never work as well as an hour and a sponge.

Yeah, having a driveway and a house rocks! I'm out there a lot now, since the weather's been getting better. I just did an oil change on the OB wagon last night. Tonight, if I have time, I'll change the oil on the RS and wash and (fingers crossed) wax it down too. God I love the spring!
p.s. - sorry about not catching up, I had a couple people in the car who don't take well to my "rally car" driving experience. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

Kalins1 04-26-2001, 12:49 PM Update.....I just took my car from Grant Ave. out to Wilson Rd. without a noise. I did a few tests in an empty HQ parking lot that indicating it wasn't the CV joint or the differential. Now it is down to the U joints or the rear brakes. My guess is the rear brakes because I didn't change them last time I changed the front brakes and they didn't make noise until I got back to Grant Ave. Then it started squeaking again! I slammed the brakes on and then let it roll and the pitch of the squeaking changed. Plus, I put her in neutral and let her roll and she still made the sound. How annoying. Please let it be the brakes.
Sean
Charge 04-26-2001, 02:49 PM Ahh, throwing away a perfectly good meal.
litespeed 04-26-2001, 07:47 PM Sorry guys but I won't make the event in Hocking Hillshttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif. I just made the decision tonight. I'm recovering from a nasty cold and am pretty toasted. Plus I have a ton of work to do around the house (my wife dragged me to the garden center tonight to pick up HUGE bags of mulch - Oh boy!). Ahh the life of a "home-moaner". Sounds like a total cop out, but I think I'd regret it in the long run.
My son Paul Carpenter (Xmetal) will be there and I'll be there in spirit. Hope to meet some of you guys this summer at any other events and AutoX in Akron. Have a great time in Southern Ohio and everybody be safe (watch out for the local cops - they are probably bored)!
Lifino 04-26-2001, 09:04 PM Man, don't bang gardening! Great pass time.
Actualy I was thinking about this tonight while I was washing my car. Why is it that we will put in all this time into making the outside of our car look good, and relatively little time making the interior pretty? Then you look at our houses, and we spend all of our time in the cleaning of the inside, and relatively little making the outside attractive.
Also, we mitch and boan about $30 in cleaning supplies, but then how much do you pay to get a house painted? And, realy now, which would you rather have looking show-room clean? I'm going to stop complaining about my simple green and sponges.
Gardening is fun if you ask me, not worth skipping out on a Suby meet, but still great fun. What sort of stuff do have? Herbs and Vegies? Roses and Tullips? Me, I like ground cover, that and cactuses... Strange but I just like the simple stuff...
Sorry, this has next to nothing to do with the meet.

RedBrighton96 04-27-2001, 01:20 AM I had a similar problem to what you are describing. A squeak while driving and it turned out just to be my brakes. It was either just dust or they needed to be adjusted a little. So i hope your problem is the same so you can make it to the meet saturday. If you can't make it, you and I and Silas and mabye some of the other columbus members need to get togehter one day and go out to dinner or something. So we can all meet each other and stuff. Or something like that.
Rob
Kalins1 04-27-2001, 01:27 AM Thanks, Rob. I'll keep you guys posted. I should really quit reading maintenance tips on the Internet because the are making me paranoid. One just said that squeaking why moving was due to wheel bearings and the other another site said it was due the indicators on the brakes. Geesh.
Sean
Homer 04-27-2001, 01:42 AM Sean, I decided to look into this for you, and I just read one that said to check for rodents up in the wheel wells. Apparently they emmit a squeeking noise when the car is in motion...
Just a thought, and a waste of bandwidth...

Kalins1 04-27-2001, 01:43 AM I already evicted the squirrel living under my hood. He wasn't paying rent.
litespeed 04-27-2001, 06:53 AM Silas -
My wife is the gardener and we have lots of flowers, shrubs and are trying to eliminate as much grass as possible. Some veggies, mostly herbs since my other son is a chef in training.
Anyhow, the weather is shaping up for a great weekend you guys. I washed my car in anticipation of going then things started to crop up and it just didn't look like the right thing to do. I look for a report on how the Hocking Hills area is from you folks. I'm thinking of doing a little vacation this August with the family and driving some of those twistie roads. Should be fun.
Have a good one.
xMetal 04-27-2001, 08:11 AM I will be sure to give my dad no end of "dissin" for jumping ship on us. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
See you fellers tomorrow
Homer 04-27-2001, 11:16 AM So, it doesn't sound like Chad is coming...
I called Byers and he's got today off, but the lady said he's still scheduled to be in tomorow.
Wellp, my car is all cleaned and happy. I can't wait to come tomorow... Though it sounds like my Fiance might not come. She's been flopping back and forth on if she's coming or not... I figure if she's sitting in the car when I leave the drive way then she's coming, but it's not going to be decided before then...

Homer 04-27-2001, 11:30 AM Doh!!!
[This message has been edited by Homer (edited April 27, 2001).]
RedBrighton96 04-27-2001, 12:06 PM It sucks that Chad isn't coming. I would like to see what's he's got under the hood. Mabye he will be able to make it to another one this summer.
Anyway, there is an iussue i thought i would address about the meet. I don't think we'll be able to do a whole lot of driving due to there being so many people going and it's a nice weekend and there will probably be a lot of people out on the road. So any driving done will have to be careful and taken easy. I don't want anyone to do somentihg that could get them or someone else hurt so just be careful and i'm goign to take it easy and enjoy the scenery and enjoy the road.
But that's about all i have to say besides see you guys tomorrow and lets have fun.
Oh, anyone want to let me drive their RS? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif
Rob
Charge 04-27-2001, 03:00 PM Rob, sure why not? That's what the warranty is for! Actually, I've yet to let anyone else drive my car. We'll see.
Neil
Kalins1 04-27-2001, 03:41 PM Hey fellas! I'll be there tomorrow! I checked out all of my brakes and wheel bearings and everything checked out. I ended up finding a rock lodged in between the rear dust shield and the rotor on the passenger front brake.
The noise is gone! Yahoo! Unfortunately, my car is still dirty! Ackkk...Oh well, you'll all just have to live with it.
Silas, you have to get your fiancee to go because mine will be there! Ha ha.
Anyways...See you all around noon at Old Man's Cave! Later!
Sean
RedBrighton96 04-27-2001, 07:38 PM Actually Ryan said he'd let me drive his. So you don't need to worry about it. And i think he's goign to take mine out for a spin too which is just going to make him appreciate his RS even more.
Sean, glad to hear you got the problem solved. That's all mine was, dirt on the brakes. See you there.
For anyone who is meeting us at eastland, if you are running late and can call me, please do so and let me know and i'll wait for you. 614-378-5723
See you guys there.
Rob
Lifino 04-27-2001, 07:45 PM Cool you got your rocks out, Sean.
Yeah, it looks like she's coming. At least that's what she was saying tonight. I'm starting to wonder if we'll get to check out your dirt roads... They were probably all full of ruts and monster rocks and locals with shotguns and gorrilas throwing fruit and missle testing zones and dolphins who eat Papa John's... Not the kind of place to take a car...
See ya tomorow!
-Silas
You notice how it's just the three of us, Rob, Sean and myself keeping this thread going? The cleveland group is pretty quiet, and nobody else seems to have much to say... Eh.
-Silas
RedBrighton96 04-27-2001, 07:54 PM Yeah it seems like it's just us, but it keeps it at the top or atleast on the first page so i'm sure they all read it, but don't say anything.
We're goign to have to start getting together some more down here in columbus, since we all live pretty close together it would be easy to meet somewhere close to everyone and just kick it for a little while.
Rob
AudiGuy 04-27-2001, 08:51 PM Well, it doesn't look like I'm gonna make it on tomorrow's drive. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif Nonetheless, maybe we central Ohio-ites can have some small GTGs around town.
Oh, and Rob, you're certainly welcome to drive my RS. All I ask is that you wax and buff it when you're done! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
RedBrighton96 04-27-2001, 09:09 PM That's too bad. They'll be more i'm sure of it. Might have to drive up to akron, but it's worth it.
We'll definately have to have a some get togethers down here some time. Mabye get together at an auto-x or something.
Thanks for the offer. I don't mind cleaning beautiful cars. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif
See you around.
Rob
I think I'm going with you guys. It'll be a VERY last minute decision but I'm trying. If I'm not at Eastland by 10:30, don't wait just for me. Hope to see you tomorrow!
RedBrighton96 04-27-2001, 09:54 PM Sweet, i've been trying to catch you at work sometime to see if for sure you wern't goign to be able to go, but it seems like you will. I hope you can go too. The more the merrier. If you can't make it, i'm sure a couple of us from here are goign to get together sometime. So they'll always be next time.
Hope to see you there. I think i'm getting ready to head off to bed. Got to get up early tomorrow. Well 9, but for a saturday, that's early. What's that you say? Saturday actually has a morning? I never knewhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif
