So I was just at E town tonight and finally figured out how to launch my WRX. Got a 12.8 @ 107 and 2 12.7's at 106, 107. Then let a friend take a lap in my car and he pulled a 14.1 so I could finally prove to him that it ain't all that easy to launch a turbo stick car.

Then I got in for my last run of the night and upon what seemed to be a good launch I heard those dreaded bang sounds followed by a load of clanking.

So I coasted down the quarter to the turnoff and found a place to park to get a look at what went wrong? I feared that I had taken a tooth of the ring gear but when I looked under the rear I saw a half shaft hanging there. It sheared off right as it goes into the CV boot. So we pulled out the shaft took off the end and put it back into the diff to see if I could limp it home. I have a Cusco LSD and I figured it would keep it locked enough for the ride home on the slow roads.

Well that was a no go cause it also broke the splines off the other axle and spit the nut and spine section out of the center of my Konig. The track official was nice enought to give it back saying I think you'll need this to get you car home.

Well aside from breaking both WRX axles. Does anybody make a heavier axle for a WRX now? I mean besides the STi axles because I don't have the money for a R180 and hubs to do a Subauru upgrade. The damn Hondas have heavy duty axles now. So has anyone come up with something for the WRX?

Oh yeah, that 500whp SRT-4 uses a pair of axles from the DriveShaft Shop. They haven't broken yet.. and his best pass to date was a 11.50 @ 126mph on full slicks..

Thats the funny thing! My tires are Nitto Neo Gens on 17" Konig Glides and my 60's were only a 1.86 at best if I remember correctly? All the time slips are out in the car and I am to tired to go get them now.

I have a set of Falken Azenis but I didn't want to use them cause I feared breaking an axle. Guess those M/S tires were hooking better than I thought?!

Also, you need some wheel spin... or else boggggg :)

Was getting the wheel spin off the launch. Then working on the second and third shift. Trying for a 12.69 but the axles thought otherwise. Just looked at the link above and won't mind shelling out a G for a set of rear axles BUT now I am worried about my R160:confused: I had it set up by Rallispec with a Cusco RS 1.5 cause I had broken a few teeth of my spider gears on the stock diff.

I have heard conflicting stories on if the R160 will hold up or not? Rallispec told me that with the Cusco LSD it should hold up to what I was asking of it. Just dumping a grand into axles that will only fit that rear makes me a bit nervous.

Any thoughts on R160's? Keeping in mind that R180's are as we all know not a dime a dozen.

Well, I would guess that Rallispec knows their business. If it was the stock R160, those suck and we all know it. But with the Cusco diff in there, you should be OK. I hope.

The thing is, if you go R180, you have to go with STi axles. I'm doing it, and it's great, but it's PRICY.
