hi all, i know this has been posted before but i cant find it using the search button, what are some visual cues that an engine is an ej22t, i know they have oil coolers but i cant tell if this one does or not w/out removing the timing cover, are there any other ways to tell besides saying turbo on the front cover? thanks damon.

Does the block have a checkboard pattern on the outside of it or is it smooth?

only 91's had oil coolers, so that is not a dead wringer. But what is a dead wringer is the oil return line from the turbo on the head. Also, pink top injectors where only found on turbos, not NA EJ22's, IIRC.

What state of assembly is the engine in? Is it a complete engine but missing the exhaust manifold and turbo? Is it a shortblock missing the heads? Give a little more detail of what you can see, or post some pics and it will be very easy to tell...

Well,
if it has a turbo attached, you are pretty sure it is a turbo block and don't need us...;)

That is unless the guys selling it to you is some shifty eyed talking out of the side of his mouth mofo that you can't trust any farther than you can kick. But it would still be a lot of work to make an old NA block look like a turbo.

How much are you paying for it? Are you using it complete or tearing it down for just the shortblock? I only ask because I have an EJ22T shortblock for sale in the classifieds...

matt, maybe youre right, i think i'm just being paranoid, i got a pretty good deal $400 for everything, i haven't decided exactly what i'm going to do with it yet, maybe try to adapt the turbo to my 1.8 and keep the 22t for my RS. thanks damon
