I have an IHI turbo I was told came off of a subie. the ID tag on it says rhb5 and vf4 there is also a serial number. Does anybody know what this turbo is or what vehicle it came off of. I really need a downpipe gasket more than anything, any other info would be greatly appreciated.

85-90 subaru turbo. The turbo can push a bit over 200HP (crank) if you have a nice flowing setup for both intake and exhaust.

basicly its too small for any real application unless you want a torque monster.

is there any upgrades I can make. Like a better flowing compressor housing?

Could you put an ej20 turbo on it, would it fit and would it help in performance?

well the inlets and outlets would be different, and it would be a big time downgrade for the ej20.

I tihnk the VF4 is from an early EA81 turbo. Those were oil cooling only. The VF7's were Oil AND water. VF7's came on EA82 Turbos from 1985 to 1992...although the last year of production is fuzzy....EA81 turbos were from 1983-1984 only....IIRC.

where could i get a turbo upgrade for 92 legacy?

Any SUBARU performance shop. try boxer4racing.com

RHB5s came on the isuzu impulse rs, and they are almost the smallest turbo ive ever seen, the motor is a 1.6 liter. that turbos inlet diamiter is like almost big enough to fit my thumb. Ive tuned one on an impulse with upgraded cams, upped compression built head, and a haltec stand alone, and with the turbo producing max boost the thing was still as slow as molassis (is that spessed right?) I wouldnt recomend putting that thing on even a goped. torque monster? no it will never produce enough torque to be constrewed as any type of monster, with a turbine that small if your motor flows well youll only be making parasitic drag. your better off N/A.

the VF4 is off of an EA81 turbo...IIRC that is the one that is NOT watercooler. a VF7 would be better, although only slighty larger...a VF10/11 from a legacy turbo is bigger still....while the TD04 the US WRX's have would be a great choice.
