I change to a new seats and my Airbag light is on. I purchased a 3.3ohm, 2W resistor and install it. The airbag light is still on

Now, I had also removed my front seatbelt system but I am wondering if this is the cause of why the light is still on?

Need help.

its illegal to tamper with the airbag system, that includes the light. I think its a hefty fine for dissabeling it.

I think he means the side airbags that are built into the seats. Which he no longer has. Probably a sensor that connects to and has feedback from the seats. Taking out that sensor would be better then disabling all your airbag notification sensor lights, especially if something goes wrong.

I'm assuming the seats here since he said "I change to new seats and my airbag light is on."

I doubt he's actually trying to disable the entire system.

Yes, I am not trying to disable the ENTIRE airbag system. I just change my stock seats to those racing seats and took off my seatbelt.

I am wondering if the airbag sensor is connected with the seatbelt which seems to be when I look through the service manual.

If that is the case, must I still use the 3.3ohm resister for the side sensor also?

Check the schematics of the airbag system on your vehicle. If memory serves me right, I believe the shoulder harness is part of the SRS system.

Thanks. I am going to get the 3.3ohm resistor which is pretty hard to find

go to radio shack and buy 8 10 ohm resistors. Put 4 in parallel into the air bag plug under your seat, same for passenger. The light will go out.

Remember, if you ever get in an accident the current through those little resistors will make them HOT/burn

Actually it's 3X10 ohm in parallel for 3.3 ohm.

I used my ohm meter to verify 3.4/5 ohms, tollerences????

The formula for parallel resistances is-

R= 1/ (1/R1+1/R2+1/R3+....)

So, if you do the math, 3- 10-ohm resistors in parallel will give you 3.3 ohms.

If you want to disable the air bag light without any evidance of tampering ,simply replace light with a blown light,or short your 1 out.

Light is still there ,so no one can say *****

The problem with doing that is the light then won't be able to come on and warn you of any other problems in the airbag system, which you would want to know about. The resistor fix turns the light off while keeping the system and warning light fully functional otherwise, and it's cheap.

will the front air bags still function in case of an accident if the side's have the resistor? How about when the light is on?
Why did you remove the seat belts anyway?

Yah. I want to disable the seat airbag sensor and the side airbag sensor rather than disabling the entire system.

i'm in the same boat--replaced seats with racing seats need to disable the side air bags--will use the 3 - 10ohm resistors
what needs done about the seat belt--mine is gone - using racing seatblet and i want the front air bags active ???

There is plenty of info on this that can be found with a search, no need to bump a three-year-old thread.
