i can get a great deal on a few tubes and want to put some in my interior but im not going to be using the gawdy cigarette lighter. where is a 12v source inside the car i can hardwire it into? is there a diy or tutorial online? please dont just say "hook it up to xyz wire" because i have no idea what xyz wire is, i need pics as this would be my first electrical mod.

Given your level of expertise I would suggest tapping into the clock wire. The reason I suggest that is because the wires going there are labeled on the side of the clock. You want the wire labeled ACC. (accessory power-power available when the car is turned on) . The clock bevel is just held on with 4 clips. Pull hard and it will pop off. After tapping into the clock wire I would route the wire downward into the stereo area and out the side (left or right) depending on where you want the lights. Or perhaps attach two wires and run them to either side.

He is right tapping into the clock wires is the easiest way to do it, but however everytime your car/clock is on your lights come on so I would install a flip switch. How hard is it you say? My grandma can install one that is how easy it is.

yea, but just make sure you fuse it and put a switch one it. the only issue with that is that you can accidentally leave the neons on.

take plate off where your headunit is and just hook it on to the back of the cigarette lighter or power source for the head unit..thats what i did:banana:

What I did was just pull out the fuse for the cig lighter stick the stripped tip of the power wire in then stick the fuse back in on top of it. Worked fine for my neons and you don't have to start splicing into stuff.

This is a very poor wiring practice that can result in shorts or, at the very least, eventual poor performance of the accessory you are connecting. At least use one of the pre-made "add a circuits" that plugs in under the fuse and accomplishes the same thing safely.
