Install is a little bit harder than the old 5 spd ones. i think we have it down to about a half hour or so.

How does this compare with the factory short shifter. Obviously a much more reasonable price.

The latest in a series of firsts. The kartboy replacement lever for the Subaru WRX STi 6 Speed is the first non-Subaru version available. With a height reduction of 1" and a redesigned mechanical advantage, a throw reduction of 40% is achieved. CNC machined and Tig welded in the USA. Matched with a set of kartboy shifter bushings (available separately), a major improvement in the shifting is immediately felt, while retaining the factory reverse lock-out.

One more twist to throw at you. Will this work with the factory STi short shifter? Is there an advantage to combining them or better to add this to the stock setup?

are you referring to the aftermarket STi one for the 6spd? were a bit shorter than that one. should install just the same as the other 6spd one.

Will there be any generalized instructions available before Peaty's write-up? I was planning to install this weekend and would appreciate any pointers.

I have the aftermarket (STi/SPT) 6sp short shifter. Would this enhance that more or would it be better to install yours on the stock 6sp assembly.

IE: If the shifter I have now which is a complete assembly (rods/linkage, etc) reduced the throw by 20% would your further reduce it by 40%? I realize that yours is 1.0" shorter in height as well.

If it's no benefit I will sell the current setup and install yours on the stock shifter assembly.

Our shifter would be 40% less than what comes stock on the 6spd setup.

personally i'd sell the other setup and recoup a lot of money :)

the only special tools you will need are a set of snapring pliers and a center punch for the roll pin on the reverse lockout.

The linkage, as well as bushings on the STi short throw system from Subaru are the same, only black instead of Gold. The lever itself is the only change. No benefit to using the other components vs the stock ones.

There are a coupld of ways to install the setup. The easy/hard way and the hard/easy way. That is, there is no really easy way. The way Tom and I have installed them, as a team, not individually, is to remove the whole assembly as it attaches to the trans and body, and swap the lever out. The hardest part of installing our lever is lining up the roll pin that goes through the release ring, the slot in the lever, and hole in the cable end. It is easier to do on a bench than in the car.

You could also try to simply remove the lever from the base by removing the c-clip and the linkage, and having someone under the car push/pull the cable to lne it up.

We make no claims that this is an easy install. Give yourself plenty of time and at least one other person to help. This is a good Saturday morning, don't have to go to work in an hour project. Hopefully, we will have install instructions up soon. We have been bombarded with request to start selling these, so we couldnt wait any longer.

Having already done the STi short shifter I can attest to the fact that it is not that difficult to install/swap. Can be done very easily on ramps or jack stands. Big time and knuckle savers are to loosen the tranny mount and if you have the ability to drop the center section of your exhaust it's a piece of cake. I did mine when I installed a new TBE so I had the exhaust already off. Plenty of room to work. I easily accomplished it working alone. If you have an extra body it will save you time from crawling out from under the car to the inside and back again.

PS: Just placed my order. I will post feedback how it compares to stock and also the factory short shifter.
