I am thinking if getting a TXS TMIC V2 TMIC.
People mentioned that it will not fit on a 05 STi (or 04 for that matter). Is that true does TXS have a different version nowdays?

Any input appreciated.

Thanks

Nick

Just my opinion

I wouldn't bother upgrading the stock IC on your STi with another top mount. The stocker works fine with basic mods. Any after market Top mount IC is still going to become heat soaked as soon as the car stops moving. My upgaded Top mount IC - on my WRX- offered no improvement at the track. If your going to spend money on upgrading your IC go with a front mount. Then you will have room for more serious mods in the future.

Thanks for input. By the way that TMIC does not fit.

I am trying to avoid cutting and chopping parts of the car (beam etc..). Is there such a FMIC?

Nick

There is no FMIC that does not require some chopping. Some of them are better than others about this. Some supply a new bumper beam so you don't have to chop up the stock one. But none are chop free. At the very least you will be trimming the back of the bumper skin to clear the core.

The TMIC that is know to fit is the Spearco one. Z1 and a few other vendors have/can get them.

kind of hesitant to even upgrade the TMIC. If I go for a FP Green, I think it barely fits under the stock STi TMIC. And I really do not want to go FMIC.

You dont have many choices then....

Has anyone done an air/water cooler? That would solve many problems. You could fit a very high flowing air/water core under hood in a much smaller space than air/air. You would not have to chop the front of the car. No boost loss/lag assoiated with front mount kits. A remote water cooler/radiator would be in front, but would not need to be as huge as an air/air core.

I think I will make one. Any interest?

Depending on the power you’re looking for and what you're going to use the car for, I don't think the stock IC needs to be replaced.

cronic made 348hp/275tq on 93 octane and 400hp/323tq (SAE corrected) with these mods.

I know it's a different motor but that IC still had to flow enough air to make that power. And I think it was a WRX TMIC (even smaller than the STi). Again I think that what you use your car for will determine if you want a FMIC or not. If you just want a fast street car and occasionally break the law on long stretches or curvy roads you probably don't need it. If you are constantly racing whether it is road/autox/rallyx/drag then you might consider it.

agreed. I think I can make more torque(due to the 2.5 displacment) on pump gas at about 20-21psi. I will still keep on hi-flo cat(possibly TXS TBE). I will use the stock airbox as well. I will try to even hide the turbo under a cusco shield I have.

Engine management is the key here and ECUTEC whic is my first choice will not be out for at least 3-4 weeks (05 STi).

IMO as long as the stock I/C does not choke off flow there's little power to gain upgrading for regular driving or 1/4 mile runs on most mildly modded turbo cars, and that is probably true even moreso on a top mount, and considering the cost of I/C's and the related hardware/install the bang for buck return is very low in most cases.

Where a better I/C really helps is on long, high speed WOT runs where the I/C can get really start to get heat soaked badly.

Good example, I ran deep into the 11's on a Talon with the very small, inefficient stock sidemount which does not really get too much air flow across it.

The only thing I did to that I/C was weld on 2.5" mandrel bent, constant radius in/outlet pipes to replace the restrictive 2" uneven bend ones. I also always made sure the car was cool before racing and I sprayed down the I/C with cool water between runs.

Once I upgraded the I/C to a huge front mount in anticipation of a big turbo upgrade my times were only marginally better at the track and on the road I couldn't tell the difference.

You can make it fit if your a fabricator.

this is quite nicely done but I am no fabricator. :)
Plus if I decide to stuff a FP Green under that TMIC it may just not fit.

The Green will fit as Turboxs car is running the stock STI TMIC with one.

I was told so but I meant that I am not sure if the TXS TMIC will fit with a FP Green.

I am thinking from your pics it may fit.
