Will be getting a new set of wheels soon. Going with the SSR comps and a BFG KDW tire. Having a problem settling on the size. I really like the look of a 245 size tire but not sure if it will rub. On tirerack if you look up a 2003 wrx the rim are 17X7.5 and i dont think a 245 tire would fit anyway. But if you put in an STi They have 17X8.5. Will these rims fit good on my car, and will the 245/40-17's fit on that rim w/o rubbing. Stock supension. I would think that combo would fit with the right offset and not cause problems, although tirerack does not list the offset of these wheels, anyone know?Sould i try for the wider tire or play it safe with a 17X7.5 wheel and 225/45-17 tires?Please if anyone has info or is running a set up like this let me know thx.

The 17x8.5 SSR's are ET48

Lots of people run 17x8 ET48 Rotas on WRX sedans and with 235/40x17 there is no rubbing with moderate lowering

However, the 17x8 and 245/40x17 combo will rub on the sedan, so I'm pretty sure that even at stock height the 17x8.5 will require you to roll the fenders

I'm running SSR Comps (17x7.5) and Toyo Proxes 225/45-17 on my 2002 WRX wagon. There are rubbing issues on the wagon with wider tires and rims. As you stated, I also went the safe route. I'm also 3 LBS lighter than stock on each wheel. Many have had their fenders rolled ($300.00+/-) and now run larger widths with no problems. However, I didn't. For now, the above combination holds the road fine. The rims are forged and strong and the tires are sticky:)

I have seen 245's cause some rubbing issues that couldn't even be corrected with a fender roll ...... 235's is about as wide as I would recommend

It all depends on the camber of the rear wheels. If you run pretty close to 0 you will have rubbing issues even with the fenders rolled. If you run closer to -1.5* you will still have to roll the fenders, but should not encounter any further rubbing issues.

Ok will be ordering today going to go with the 225 Thx for the info. By the way seen a lot of post about rolling fenders was wondering exactly how you would do that, not that im going to just wondering.

Basically bend the fender lip up so that it is flush with the fender itself.

has anyone tried an 8 or 8.5 inch wheel with something like the chargespeed fenders which are a little wider than stock? Is the extra 20 mm in width enough to make a 245 tire not rub you think?

20mm is almost an inch of extra room which would be more than enough.

but the charge speed fenders are for the fronts only..
So the front would clear the 8.5 245 series setup..

what will you do about the rears??

I'm hoping since they don't have to turn that I'll be ok since I'm still at stock ride height. If the fenders need to be rolled I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for the body shop to give it a few whacks with teh hammer since my car will be in there for basically a whole front end, sans 1 headlight and the hood scoop :lol:
