WHat offset details etc etc do I need for 19s on my 2003 WRX...

the tires will be 235/35/19

I would go 20s but dont want to pull out inner gaurds etc....

yes I know ride comfort is sacrificed but I like big rims... I am form Australia and they have them all the time and they look sweet..

They would fit, but why 19's? If all you are interested in is bling, then do it otherwise they only hurt performance.

IMO huge wheels not only hurt performance, but they also don't look too great on the wrx. It starts to look like a jacked up truck

Whatever, wheel size definitely affects performance. Otherwise why F1 cars would roll on 30's.

How would it affect performance if you do it right... IT OWULD BE THE SAME ROLLING DIAMETER as original... hence low profile tyres.. and also thats another point low profile tyres cause it to handle better.. less tyre roll!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, you need to learn a few things. 1st off a 19" rim will locate more weight farther out on the wheel which will require more torque to turn hence making your car slower. Secondly, while you may be partially correct about the roll over, the effective difference between 17's and 19's running at the correct tire pressure will be 0. You will never see an autox or track champ driving a Subaru with 19's or 18's. THey all use 17's for the best performance mix.

19's will KILL...repeat...KILL your performance!!!!

Granted, I have 2 sets of very light, wide, JDM 17's with summer and dot-r's on them......but I'm am so sick of the anti big wheel rabidity on NASIOC. God forbid anybody would want to modify their car primaraly for looks....they're subaru's, we can't have that!!!!

So, by all means, go and put 18's, 19's or 20's on there if you want to drop the coin. For at least 95% of people on this board, they are never going need the "improvement" of a 17 over an 18. As long as the 18 is fairly light, like under 20 lb, it's not all that big of a deal. You take a minor hit in acceleration, but it's barely noticeable. The tires weigh the same more or less (yes I know the weight is further outboard). And the type of tires make a bigger difference than the size anyway for handling. 19's are also pefectly viable to fit on the car too - a 225/35-19 is almost the exact same diameter as stock, and will not rub. As long as it's a decent tire and the wheel is around 20 lb, I see no problem with running 19's - the car will handle plenty well. IF you can get a 19" wheel+tire setup that weighs 45 lb or so, that's fine. There are plenty of people on 17's that weigh that much.

As far as 20's go, well there's a grey area. Pretty much nobody runs them. The tire size to run would be a 225/30-20, which is not made as far as I can tell, that would come close to the stock diameter. You would have to use a 225/35-20, which is made by nitto in the NT555 model. That's a 26.2" overall diameter, which is 1.3" larger than stock. So, you would end up riding .65" higher than stock. As long as it's not on a rim wider than 7.5", you should have no problem droping the car 1.5-2", there should be plenty of clearance. You might have a bit of a problem with clearance to the strut, but it would be minor, it all depends on wheel offset and camber. I 100% belive it's feasable to make it work and I think it would look fine (good even) with bit of drop. Coilovers of some sort (just GC ones - springs) would be a good idea in this case to dial in the drop.

In conculsion....do what YOU want to do. Who are you trying to impress, a bunch of nerds on a subaru forum......or yourself, your friends, and hot chicks?

Oh, and to answer your original question....

As far as I know 19's are hard to come by in the high offset's prefered for subaru's. My personal favorite offset is +48mm, it has allowed me to fit wide wheels and tires (245 and 255) on my setup with no rubbing or fender rolling. Granted, I have a pretty modified suspension to gain clearance.

For you, with a normal width wheel and tire, and a conventional ~1.5" drop with a set of lowering springs, I think a 19x8 with the 235/35-19 should fit pretty well with offsets going down to about +40, tho at +40 you may need to run some pretty serious neg camber to get it to clear the rear fender, like -2 to -2.5 degrees, or roll the fenders. Not bad for tire wear, just don't run any toe. This can be done with camber bolts. Life will be easier with a offset around +45 and up.

You forog tone crucial point to your arguement, Subaru's for the most part are not good looking cars so why would anyone want it to be a show car? They built for performance, hence the amount of people on this board that say nay to 19's.

I had 19's on my car, I will admit they looked nice, but heavy. if i dig up all my dyno runs, i have proof that you loose wheel torque with bigger wheels. i lost 4 or 5ft/lbs of torque with the biger 19's. i may have to go get it reprinted, but I have seen it somewhere. here are my new wheels, VERY LIGHThttp://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/8/web/380000-380999/380586_5_full.jpg

I'm not saying they wouldn't look nice, just not worth the look. To me a nice set of 17's will look just as nice and be practical.
