I currently have 195x60x15 OEM tire wheel combo

I am looking for improvement in hydro-planing, packed snow and all weather comfort, especially during long commutes on dry pavements

I am mainly looking at Bridgestone Turanza either 15 or 16 size

In the 15 inch size, I am limited to LS-H, -V and -T
The high performance -Z only comes in 16 inch size

What is the best tire size combo

Looking at wheels
At tire rack, I see
15 x7 , SSR comp-X, 11.9 lb and +42mm offset
16 x 7, SSR , 11.0 lb, +50mm offset
16x 7, BBS, 12.4 lb, +48 mm offset

How much weight improvement compared to stock wheels ?

Which gives the best upgrade path

You must have a TS, judging by your tire size. I have one too, if you didn't notice.

I picked up a set of WRX stock 16" wheels with stock re-92's for $300. they had less than 3000 miles on them, perfect condition.

That was a good upgrade, especially considering the price. I would do the same if I were you. Just look in the Private Classifieds, there are a bunch of sets there now, or look in your areas regional forum so you don't have to pay shipping.

In my honest opinion, the RE-92's are ok, I would drive them for a while, then from what you say, get the Continental ContiExtremeContact tires. They get very high ratings on tirerack.com and supposedly perform very well in a variety of conditions.

The stock WRX wheels are light, strong, and look nice. You can't get a better deal.

I have 1997 Impreza L wagon AWD
and 1995 Legacy LS wagon AWD

I have been replacing the tires with stock RE92

Last winter, I had 1 instance of hydroplaning and 2 instances of skidding on packed ice and 4-5 instances of partly losing control during turns in slushy melting snow

My tread is still OK

That's becasuse your tires are pure crap. I'm sorry you actually bought them.

wow, buying RE92s is lots of $$ for what you get. VERY over priced tire.
