View Full Version : What lugs to use with Subaru RS Wheels

I just got a set of black powder-coated RS wheels (think they are MY 2000). The chrome lugs just aren't cutting it.

What lugs are people using with these wheels?

I did a search recommending that splined lugs not be used for non-tuner wheels (whatever that means).

So if not splined what?

McGuard - Do they make non-splined? In black?

Gorilla?

Kyokugen?

Thanks for the help guys.

Jeff

I would think it's fine to use the McGard SplineDrives on your rims. Maybe "they" said that because it's not worth getting expensive lugs to protect stock rims? In anycase, a member is selling a used set of black McGards here (good deal considering tnew ones go for close to $100):

I've had mine for almost a year and they still look great!!!

Thanks for the info. I want them for the looks (like I said, the chrome is just not doing it) not necessarily the protection. Is there something about them that makes them more lilkely to break? Also, it looks like they are a lot longer than the stock logs. Will they look silly?

I can get McGuard Spline Lugs for $75 new shipped so I would just order those.

Anyone else want to weigh in on this?

Thanks,

Jeff

Not that I know of - I read that one member broke his splinedrive key, but I'm not sure how it broke. You'll get stories of people breaking their key with any tuner lug set. Some just break and some are because the lugs being too tight (overtorqued with airtools) thus causing the keys to strip. Also, some lug sets tend to fade/lose their color after a couple of car washes. I've read stories of black ones fading into other colors

I believe there is a long lug set and normal length (short I presume) ones that McGard sells. I've got the short ones and they're about the same lenght as my stocker lugs from Subaru. So "no," they won't look funny if you get the shorter ones ;)
