View Full Version : Fuel Inject. Treatment
GTMAN 12-22-2000, 11:18 PM Is it worth it putting a fuel treatment every 10K miles to make sure the injectors, fuel pump, etc are clean for subie engines - I have a 98GT 2.5L.
If so, what would be a good engine/fuel treatment? Is it safe on the engine?
Thanks in advance.

scoobiejosh 12-27-2000, 12:18 PM It definatily couldnt hurt to clean/lubricate the injectors. Just get a reputiable brand (NOS to name one) and make sure it is safe for O2 sensors and catalitic converters.

StriderTB 12-27-2000, 12:56 PM It is my understanding that most every brand of gasoline sold nowadays is a detergent gasoline, and I don't think these injector cleaners will improve anything. Most of them make rediculous claims about adding horsepower and such. I can't see that they could hurt, but I don't think they are really necessary.

vinman 12-27-2000, 04:47 PM Car & Driver (on TV) had an episode that talked about these cleaners. They reported that they worked (some better than others). However, they said they were good for maintaining clean injectors, valves, etc, but they don't add horsepower or make the car run faster.
There are some that are specific for removing water from the fuel and I think they do work - I've had first hand experience with that. I suspected water in the gas after I refilled at a station in Western NY - the car ran like crap about five minutes after filling up. One of the guys at a local parts store thought it was water in the fuel also. I don;t remember the name of what he gave me but it worked.
scoobiejosh 12-28-2000, 01:08 AM i agree on the detergants added into gasoline and the fact it wont help very much if any, but they are suposed to lubricate too. also most of them claim to remove some of the contamints and water (and spelling errors) from the gas tank, remove deposits from valves, pistons, and cumbustion chamber. Also dont use it very much, as it might foul plugs.

tmat3 12-28-2000, 01:11 AM I used a Valvoline Fuel Injector Cleaner once on my Civic at 15,000 miles. Nothing improved at all.
bratmantlz 12-28-2000, 08:12 AM vinman could it have been HEET?? to get the water out.
gaylemd 12-28-2000, 08:22 AM Guys,
You might want to look at Redline SI-1 COMPLETE FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER. It is a concentrated package of the most powerful high-temperature detergents available to clean gasoline fuel injectors and intake valves. Complete Fuel System Cleaner can clean injectors to nearly 100% efficiency in one treatment. The cleansing effect on injector deposits can raise fuel economy approximately 12% or even greater, depending on the condition of the injectors. Although many gasolines advertise injector cleanliness, GM presented a paper to the SAE which indicates that their customers encountered injector plugging with all major brands of gasoline (SAE 861533). Complete Fuel System Cleaner contains detergents and a synthetic upper cylinder lubricant which will help clean the intake valves, pollution control valves, combustion chamber deposits and carburetors. Complete Fuel System Cleaner also protects the fuel system from rust. One bottle treats up to 100 gallons. Safe for continual use. You can find it at Pep Boys for $4.99 a bottle. This is the real deal.

Kevin Thomas 12-28-2000, 10:37 AM I tested the Redline fuel cleaner and my 1/4 mile times went from 17.5 to 17.0 when my car was almost completely stock. J/K
I wish I could say something like this. With 98k on my odometer though I can test this Redline product and I should be able to see a measurable difference in my gas mileage. Thanks for the info.

i just bought some redline si-1 for my 06 wrx but im confused on how much to put it my gas? lets say i have a full tank of gas, is it safe to dump the whole bottle of si-1 in? my car only has 30k on it so i think i just want to put a little bit of the cleaner in and then maybe a little more after one full tank goes through. i just heard its really powerful so i dont want to mess anything up! thanks!
Counterfit 01-12-2008, 06:34 AM It should say on the bottle how much to put in.
And oldest thread resurrection?
