I have a 1983 Saab 900 Turbo 5-Speed 2-door for sale. Although I don't know much about Saabs, I did do a little research before I bought it. This is a rare car, apparently many of these made were either 4-doors or non-turbo. I bought this car a little while back with dreams of restoring it and making it a "sleeper" - a car that looks slow, but isn't. Don't get me wrong - there's not much it needs, but I'll get to that later.
Well, after I bought it I began to think of things a bit more logistically and have realized that I have neither time nor space for a third car. I wish I could keep it, this car is a great starting point for someone to restore or fix and drive. I have so little room in my driveway that I had to rent a storage space just for this car.
Here are some facts about the car:
1983 Saab 900 Turbo
Manual Transmission
188K miles (Just getting broken in!)
Two doors and a hatchback
Color is Gray
Interior is Blue Cloth
Options: Power (Tinted) Windows, Sunroof, A/C
SONY Xplod radio
No (or very small) dents or scratches - small pits on front hood
Price: $750 or best offer
Why is is so cheap:
Well, I'll describe it to the best of my ability. I'd rather be honest about everything up front.
No antenna
SMALL amount of rust on rear wheelwells
Front door does not lock (easy fix)
Driver's window slow to move up & down (easy fix)
Interior is super-clean, small rip on driver's seat (has been stitched)
Missing a fog-light cover
Rear speakers have been removed
A/C belt squeaks at idle. Blows cold on your feet but not in your face? I think I'm just turning a knob wrong, I haven't really had time to play with it.
Windshield has some cracks/chips.
How's it run? Well, it IS a 21 year old car with 188K miles on it. It does idle rough at times. I went out to start the car and let it run a couple of weeks ago but hadn't been back until yesterday to take the pics, and it started right up. The shifter is somewhat tight when putting the car in gear. It gets easier as the car warms up. I looked into this problem and learned that the clutch slave cylinder goes bad in these cars - Not sure how difficult it is to repair on a Saab but I've done it before on my neon in about an hour and a half. Not 100% sure this is the problem, but it's a good start.
The engine and turbo pull HARD. No wonder it gets so much praise from critics! On a quick back-roads romp a couple of weeks ago, I went over a large hill a bit over cruising speed. The car didn't even think twice about it - it just kept going without hesitation. In my civic or neon I would have had to punch the cas to make it - but not the Saab. Kinda what it's like to drive a WRX I imagine!
Well, like I said this is a fine little car and I wish I could keep her, but it's just not the right timing. I hope you can treat her the way she ought to be! Please email me with questions or to make an appointment to come see the car. The car has not been inspected, the windshield would fail I know. Because it currently has no tags, I can't drive it out to you. I also have about a dozen more pictures, they are yours for the asking!
I will consider interesting trades as well - cosmetic '02/'03 Impreza upgrades for my girlfriend's 2.5RS would be considered.
I hope I've remembered everything - Thanks for looking!
