OK, I had a 2004 WRX clutch kit put in the car (stock 5 speed tranny) for the shudder TSB- I loved it. Then, my motor went, so I thought it best to get a new clutch kit to go with the higher HP/RPM output engine. I got the Exedy Sport clutch kit and I am HIGHLY disappointed. Launching at ANYTHING over 5K and it burns (yes, I know how to do it, I slip) - weak ass big time. I almost feel as tho the 2004 clutch was stronger. Anyway, getting to my question. I want to upgrade to an STi 3 puck disc (5mm). Can I use the existing Exedy clutch cover and stock flywheel for this disc? I know it is rec'd to get the matching lightweight STi flywheel and clutch cover- but if I can keep expense low, that's a good thing ;) Thanks all.

You cannot use a stock clutch cover with the STi 3 puck- I'd doubt you could use Exedy cover. You can have my used 3 puck disc for cheap if you want to try it though :).

Just so you know, the 3 puck clutches are not very slip friendly. They are pretty much just on/off switches. You may or may not have been aware of that.

Well, I discovered to my dismay that the 3 puck disc requires the 3 puck pressure plate- the stock WRX disc will not work with it, nor will the STi full organic disc I have. The disc and plate list for $800, and I paid around $400 shipped. $350 shipped sound OK?

Miles are unknown I'm afraid. I'm getting rid of it because I want a slippable clutch as my girlfriend drives the car as well (I'm very proud of her for learning to drive a MT so quickly :D) and I don't want an on/off switch clutch. The full organic disc is slippable, and I was going to use that disc and the 3 puck pressure plate but that won't work. The 5mm disc MUST go with the 5mm plate and the 8mm disc with the 8mm plate. That's the only reason I'm getting rid of it.
EDIT: the disc starts out at 5mm, and it's thinnest point is 4mm. Assuming you can't use all of the friction material, I'd say it has 50%-75% of it's life left :).
