View Full Version : what tuners to see about 2.2 shortblock..... drb5 07-04-2004, 11:41 AM looking to find a tuner who can supply a 2.2 shortblock sleeved with uprated internals to 2 litres, does anyone know anywhere other than axis, magnus and crawford? thanks:) Matt Monson 07-09-2004, 02:06 PM you've mentioned the ones that come to mind. PM me is you are interested in buying the "core" engine to do this build. I have one sitting in my garage and it will run you less to have this one built than to buy one from one of those guys already assembled... totoherbs 07-09-2004, 03:18 PM I would go with crawford, axis has a nice waiting list and magnus has a longer waiting list then cobbs. Not good. I am new to the boxer engines. Came over from VW's. So could you elaborate on it? I was told the 2.2 was no good for tuning? mr2guru 08-05-2004, 06:44 PM Blocks are aluminum...so they are sleeved with Iron liners in the cyl. Actually the 2.2 (sans cast pistons) is probably the strongest factory subaru block. MJU1983 08-05-2004, 06:47 PM  arent you with axis mike? I work for Citigroup/Citibank. NorthWesternMIScooby 08-19-2004, 04:06 PM What kinda performance mods can be done to a 2.2 with stock internals? reddevil 08-24-2004, 03:42 AM Mods to a 2.2 with stock internals? I have about 100 miles on a 10 lbs of boost via supercharger on a 1990 2.2 wagon! Lets see how long it lasts! Then give me a call! Actually, it supposedly depends on the year of the 2.2. 1990-94 are stronger than the other 2.2s. Or so I hear. But then again, I am running 10 lbs of boost on a 1990 2.2 and it is great. And when your try this on 2.5 rs motor, they blow up. Which would you choose? Boxologist 08-25-2004, 07:17 PM on the legacy turbo block, on stock, its reported to run high PSI with an intercooler. more than +2 atmopheres. remember, that block runs a very low compression, so u have to be spooled up to get that car moving period. i will be having a used block that i bought overhauled so i can up the compression to almost JDM spec so i can have some torque and need the boost later on. BoostdScubaru 09-07-2004, 03:02 AM can i find higher compression pistons for this motor... or use WRX pistons? also with WRX heads what is the compression ratio... ? WRX heads and 1.1 mm metal head gasket Compression Ratio?? Matt Monson 09-08-2004, 05:14 PM No, You cannot use WRX pistons. They don't have enough bore. AS for your othe questions, go over to the conversions forum and look for a thread titled,"this should be the last EJ22T thread". It has links to discussions that answer all of these questions and have the math. reddevil, Methinks you are confused. We are discussing the EJ22T closed deck turbo block. You are talking about a plain jane NA EJ22 block. But your remarks about it being stronger than new EJ22's are correct, just not relevant to this discussion. EJ22T's can hold 25+psi of boost. ;) BoostdScubaru 09-08-2004, 06:55 PM is the EJ22T the shortblock i can buy new for $2000 from subaruWRXparts.com and i just wanted to know what compression is for the WRX heads being on the stock shortblock, with 1.1 mm metal head gaskets... totoherbs 09-09-2004, 07:32 AM is the EJ22T the shortblock i can buy new for $2000 from subaruWRXparts.com and i just wanted to know what compression is for the WRX heads being on the stock shortblock, with 1.1 mm metal head gaskets... On wrx heads its something like 7.7 to 1. Here is the thread Matt was talking about. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=505723&highlight=ej22 BoostdScubaru 09-09-2004, 09:57 PM the 2.2T block goes for $1529 + shipping at subaruparts.com part # is 10103AA310 BoostdScubaru 09-10-2004, 12:53 AM also what ecu, and what harness do i need... can i use pretty much everything just like the WRX motor... subiekid 09-10-2004, 02:13 AM there have been like 4 really good threads in differenet forums. try searching in the conversions forum, the 2.0 forum and the afi forum. totoherbs 09-10-2004, 09:28 AM the 2.2T block goes for $1529 + shipping at subaruparts.com part # is 10103AA310 That is with out the gaskets. The ecu depends on what your going to use... but ya a wrx ecu would work. If it was reflashed. |
