I'm doing a 5MT & AWD swap on my legacy. For the time being I will be staying with a stock WRX clutch & pressure plate.

I want to use a lightweight flywheel. I don't want anything lighter then around 14 lbs.

I have heard the reviews from people that have used the Exedy LW flywheels, and they love 'em.

I have not heard many comments from those with the primitive LW flywheel. His comments about machining the flywheel in just the right spots does make sense, but I'd like some real world feedback.

Any other comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's about time!!! I want a ride when it's finished!

FWIW, I put 14 pound flywheels on two RX-7s. One was 1st gen non-turbo and one a 2nd gen turbo. Both are also pretty soft on low end torque. It was definitely a worthwhile mod and I'll also put one on the WRX when the time comes to change the clutch.

Machining something that heavy that spins that fast is problematic. What about balancing. That is the real problem. Now Primitive may do a bang up job. Maybe better than Exedy. Just don't know. As a result I went Exedy flywheel and clutch.

I am just not comftrable trusting that to someone. What if the machinist found out his wife cheated on him the day he did your flywheel?

I would have prefered the Primitive weight though. Why don't you trailblaze for us?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Is the primitive one a tad heavier then the exedy? I've got a couple questions in to ekland. I'll ask him about the balancing thing.

Emailed Paul,

This is the reply I got when I asked about what type of flywheel it is and the balancing

>>>>>

Yes. Actual OEM flywheels that are CNC milled, turned, bead blasted and then computer, spin balanced.

I'll be giving this one serious thought. I need to finish up my parts list and start gathering prices.

Well....since the search engine seems to be temporarily out of order. I'll post my question in here, since it's semi related.

I'm getting conflicting results as to what the Exedy LW flywheel actually weighs. Some info says 14 lbs, some says 12 lbs. Are there different models or do vendors just not have their shiat together?

I'd still love to get some feedback from anyone that is running a primitive LW flywheel.
