Had a similar problem with the S4. I'm still not positive what caused it, but we washed it on a very cold day and put in in the garage without driving it. I didn't drive it for a few more days, and the rotors got VERY rusted. When I first pulled out, there was resistance which leads me to believe the pads rusted to the rotors somewhat.

For the next ~50 miles, it sounded just like you describe. Gradually the corrosion or whatever it was wore off.

Hi guys,

My '96 Impreza Outback wagon has been great since I picked it up for use as a winter car/daily driver, but the past few days I've noticed a clicking noise coming from the rear of the car when I'm braking. The frequency of the noise does vary with speed - the faster I'm going, the faster the clicking.

Funny thing is, it really sounds like it is coming from *inside* the car. I tried reproducing it with my window open and my head outside the car, and I couldn't hear it?? But if I poke my head back inside the car and try braking again, I hear it.

Any ideas? This one has me a bit puzzled.
