I've heard some bad feedback on redline 75W-90 gear oil . Lookin for some more feedback before i go and use it myself . Has anyone used Redline ATF D4 fluid ? and what do you think about it ?

Redline gear oil is not really the best for our Subies--too much conflicting info and owner gripes about grinding, etc.

I run Valvoline Synthetic in our Forester tranny and have gotten excellent results so far. Has all the benefits of synthetic but shifts with the smoothness of OEM tranny oil.:)

I use the 75-90 ns in the rear diff and superlightweight shockproof gear oil in the trans . No problems , smoother shifts and a slight increase in gas mileage . I still change the fluid every 30-40k just to be safe . Looked the same coming out as when I put it in .:D

Same here on a 2002 WRX. Had it in the car for about 10K and no problems yet.

I'm using Lightweight Shockproof in my tranny and the 75-90 in my rear diff with no issues.

I've had 75W 90 in my car for 35k miles now with no problems.

Based on what I've heard, your driving style dictates what kind of oil you'll like. If you're nice to your tranny and allow it to do what it's supposed to without forcing it, then, you'll be happy with Redline.

OK, if you guys say so.

But according to the Redline website, only wrxman02 is using their products correctly. They say:

Lightweight Shockproof and Superlightweight Shockproof are not really recommended for street applications (I imagine because of the solid particle suspension they use) --it's intended for heavily loaded racing trannies and diffs.

Also, they say the 75W90ns does not contain friction modifiers and so should NOT be used in limited slip diffs. They recommend the regular 75W90 for rear differentials. The 75W90, OTOH, should not be used in street trannies--has too much friction modifier for good synchro action.

As a further caution, I remember reading a number of posts a couple years back saying the 75W90ns was causing some gear grinding issues in the WRX.

Actually, I use Redline 5W30 motor oil in my Rex and love it:)
I think they have great products in general, but their gear oils quite honestly are a little baffling. I'm using NEO HD in mine (both tranny and diff) with excellent results. Very expensive, which is why Valvoline syn sounds good right now.

I changed the dino oil in the trany at 10k. i used redline 75w90ns. It really felt alot smoother, especially when cold. No probs for 15k miles. I used mobil1 gear oil for the dif.

Aw, what the heck!:D I'm going to try the Redline next time around. Their motor oils are superb--their gear lube couldn't be that bad.
Sounds like you just need to get the right product into the tranny and rear diff respectively, and you'll be OK with it.

Just did mine: 1 quart syncromesh, 2.7 redline 75w90 ns in tranny. Also put 75w90 in the rear. No grinding. Seems to be fine.
