View Full Version : Do I really need to go to the dealer?

I just got my WRX not too long ago and it's about ready for its first oil change.

The dealers I went to swore up and down that it'd be best to go to Subaru for all the regular maintenance...I mean no kidding--they want the money.

And they swore up and down the upgraded sound system was high quality and um...yeah its crap

I've always gone to those 30 minutes places for my auto maintenance and I know the people there and I know they do good work.

So just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone thinks that I really sorta should go to the dealer for service.

Thanks

Fuel Filter, Air Filter, Engine oil, Manual Tranny Oil, brake pads are a few things I would say look into maintaining yourself. There are a ton of writeups about replacing those. All of those I have done myself and I knew very little about working on vehicles before owning my suby. These sites are mainly for GC8 impreza but they update it for the New Agers.

You can go anywhere for your regular maintenance or do it yourself. As long as you can document that the work has been done on schedule and the proper materials used, the dealer cannot deny any warranty coverage because you didn't service the car there.

Keep ALL your receipts in a safe place in case it becomes necessary to produce them ;)

Or in the likely event that Jiffy Lube drains the wrong oil.

O my god I just fell off my chair! :alien:

I worked @ jiffy lube for a year or so. And o my god.....lets just say thats why I do all the work on my car myself.

our store had the best sales out of the region, and the LEAST amount of comebacks(money spend on **** we broke) and while I was there...lets just say a safe number of 100 cars left with iether...the same oil filter...the wrong kind of oil...WW fluid instead of oil...oil in the tranny fluid... etc etc....o yea and dont forget those forresters that have the tranny filter that looks EXACTLY like the oil filter....WOOPS there goes your tranny:huh:  and those BMW's with the internal oil filter...if the cap is on who knows if theres a filter in there or not?

Do YOU want the "new kid" workin on YOUR car?
