View Full Version : Oil Seals and 'special tools'

I have either engine oil or transmission oil leaking on to front cat. After lifting the engine, I will replace both and probably the front also, just 'because' the engine is out.

However, the UBIQUITOUS Special Tool seal installer and on one, a guide are illustrated.

Does successful install require a precision tool, or does patient attention fill in where 'speedy time saving tools' are not available.

However, I do realize that some seals (by the materials they are made from) need a seating tool to install properly. These are usually quite large, over 2 inches or so (in my experience).

Comments anyone?

The largest seal on the ej's is the rear main seal. THe difficult part is removing it. A slim straight screwdriver should do the trick. Installing a new one should not be difficult. I use a 1/4" short extension to get it in there.
