Need some quick advice. Got my car in the shop and the guy is telling me the AC compressor is about to seize on me. That's what's been causing my squeeking. A new compressor is about $500 and labor is about $400.
Does this sound right?
Also, would a 100k mile/10 year (gold coverage) warranty cover this? If so, I'll take it straight to Subaru.
Thanks.

Sorry this isn't yet a helpful reply, but I just dropped my car off at the dealer for the exact same thing, and I am in the exact same situation with the extended warranty. If it's not covered I'm going to be kind of pissed... why did I buy the damn extended warranty then. Anyway. I'll update later today when I hear.

If not warranted I would sure check several places for replacement costs as 900 dollars seems quite high.

Ok, so I brought it to Subaru and they said it just needed some new refrigerant or something was leaking. They cleaned it up and everything is kosher.
Why do I get the distinct impression I'm being ****ed with? This other shop did over an hours worth of testing and even said they SAW the compressor seizing up, then Subaru checks it for maybe an hour and a half (assuming they looked at it IMMEDIATELY) and tells me it just needed a little refrigerant and that it's going to be $85.
I swear, if I find out later that the compressor is going bad, I will $h!t on them so hard they will...blah blah blah (fill in the blank)...
Sigh...Anyways, on the other hand, maybe they are right and the local shop just wanted to try and get money out of me. Or Subaru just doesn't want to fix it and hope it will last until my warranty runs out.
Maybe I should take it to yet another shop to have it checked.
I'm a little peeved right now :\

Just got the word that they are replacing my whole A/C system under warranty.
My service guy was really pulling for me with SOA, so I think that helps alot.
