View Full Version : Disabling driver side door chime??
odeezie 07-21-2004, 04:25 PM Does anyone know how do disable the chime for when you open your driver side door when your keys are in the ignition? I like to play my stereo with doors open but the chime is bugging me. I know you can cut a wire somewhere...but I don't know which one.
MRF582 07-21-2004, 05:46 PM umm. don't cut any wires. cutting wires usually doesn't solve anything. think about your door chime logically. how does the car know your door is open? well there is a switch that gets pressed when the door is closed. so all you have to do is find this switch and find a way to make sure it's always pressed in.
OR
you can just turn the key to ON. that usually gets rid of the chime on most cars.
brunetmj 07-21-2004, 06:16 PM You know your right. That thing is an annoyance to me also. I have thought about disabling it many times. I am in the middle of an alarm install so i have everything apart.Maybe I will take a few minutes and figure it out..If I get a chance I will post back.
OneOBS 07-21-2004, 07:51 PM Try popping out the switch in the door jamb that turns on the interior lights. All they do is provide a ground for the circuit. If there are two wires on it, disconnect one of them and see if that does it.
Mulder 07-21-2004, 07:54 PM If you disable the switch your interior lights will no longer come on when the drivers door is opened.
odeezie 07-22-2004, 07:05 PM Thanks for the ideas...I'll see what I come up with and hopefully it isn't TOO ghetto...heh. ;)
linsavy 07-23-2004, 12:27 PM I would like to do this too.
I had a really irritating buzzer in a Ford once, that I just located and yanked the buzzer box. Does anyone know where the door chime is located?
BoostdScubaru 07-23-2004, 12:32 PM its a blue plug under the dash... it goes into a little black box... i have disabled it before... i'll try to get a picture..

I see that in the wiring diagram but couldn't locate it. Please post a pic
and I will look again today. I hope that doesn't disable the interior lights though.
odeezie 07-23-2004, 10:30 PM I looked under there and I found a few blue WIRES and and two blue plugs/modules but one went to a pedal and the other had way too many wires coming out of it. So a picture would be helpful!
I'd still disable it if my interior light didn't go on if the driver door was open. As long as all other doors set it off...I could deal with it.
If I can't get the chime to stop...I guess i'll just have to pump up the music..heh heh. :D
kaos200 07-23-2004, 11:24 PM its a black box under the dash by the steering column, i forget the color but its in there, if you try unplugging it and the chime goes away, voila. Done.
turboscooby13 07-24-2004, 09:03 PM All you have to do is look on the inside of the door jamb. You have a little rubber "8" looking thing with a silver phillips-head screw in the top. If you notice, you can push the bottom part of the "8" and the chime will stop. Unscrew the screw in the top and pull out the rubber "8". Then, use some tweezers or something to pull out the connector. Once you have the connector disconnected, put the rubber "8" back on and screw it in. If you want to go back, just reconnect the connector. I too didn't like the chiming and had done this, but I got tired of my interior light not coming on whenever the driver's door was open.
soccer_freak_m@hotma 09-08-2004, 12:21 AM I know this is resurecting from a while ago... but I found it in a search for something COMPLETELY different...
one thing that wasn't mentioned is that usually alarms use that relay to set off your alram when someone opens the door... unplugging that would be totally useless. Like the others said it would also turn off your dome light. Third... if you have you're doing an alarm install shouldn't you be disconeecting the ground form the battery anyway???? Maybe I misread... but you really shouldn't have any power going anywhere if you're doing wiring... that's an accident waiting to happen... (I know... 14V isn't much... but it'll hurt)
Anyway - just some things I figured I'd point out... one day you will thank that ding ding for reminding you of your keys....
idealrides 09-09-2004, 01:27 AM This was actually the VERY first mod I did to my WRX. I thought my first mod would be hardwiring my V1, but before I finished doing that, I couldn't stand the buzzing sound while I was tapping into the fusebox... so I found where the sound was coming from (the little black box under the steering wheel) and I pried off the cover to the box with a screwdriver and put some electrical tape over the little piezo speaker. Now the sound is still there but at maybe 1/4th the volume.
I think that was the best/cheapest mod I've done.

same thing here, but I just ripped the piezo speaker off
my mod > your mod - I don't have any sound. :p
Uncle Scotty 12-29-2004, 10:41 PM ...a little squirt of sustable glue type stuff will disable the damned little annoying, speaker thingie too ;)
Mulder 12-29-2004, 10:44 PM Back in my gray market shop days, we actually used to install these things into cars that didn't have them- ;)

...DAMN! Ya know...it's not THAT annoying now that I think about it. I'd rather have it really quiet than no sound at all cuz I disabled it on my LAST car, and I locked my keys in my car so many damn times!
I just don't like it when I wanna play music while my car doors are open but it's not that bad if your music is up enough and the "ding" is muffled.
