Well, as soon as these MX's are about toast, I'm switching over to Azenis! But in the meantime, I'd like to go have a little fun with my car on tires I no longer care about.... hmm... time for a little self-taught lesson in controlled drifting..
Now, after lots of reading and listening to techniques such as clutch kick ( sounds like something that's meant for killing trannies  ... must remember next time driving Tom's car  ), I think I'm ready to go have an hour of fun at some parking lot's expense.
But.. hmm... DCCD...
Full rear bias or what?
- oh, and btw.. by this time, there will be big mean rear sway bar :D -

Just do what I do - go into a sweeper a wee bit too fast, and then act suprised when the rear end kicks out on you. :D

Definately don't clutch kick! Even w/ rwd cars 'they' say to only clutch kick in the rain. I personally don't like clutch kicking anyway. 9 times out of 10 I use 'braking drift'. Basically trail brake and nail the gas/couter when the tail starts to creep.

In my experience autocrossing an STi, all you need to do is approach a slow corner at about 4k rpm in 2nd gear, and then be WAY too aggressive on the throttle. :D
Winding the diff to full rear would probably help out. :disco:

my 2.5 drifts most predictably on dry cement when transfering from a slight understeer (read: predictable) to oversteer by braking. forsure do NOT try clutch kicking.

I've clutch kicked my subaru a few times... stupid car just wanted to understeer more. I think it needs more rear bias.
My other car is much more fun & controllable to drift.

Yeah, I couldn't believe what I was reading when I found another forum run by a bunch of kids who want to turn Evo's and STi's into competition drift cars.
I guess it's possible.. but at what expense? I autocross and I road race. But at the end of the day, those don't put nearly the wear and tear on my car that trying to be a competitive drifter would, IMHO.
I think it's fun to go screw around every once in a while, but all this I'm reading about clutch kicking or popping half your car on a curb to induce drift is just CRAZY! Yeah, I was just kidding about doing clutch kick. The term sounds cool, but I've carted enough busted trannies between dealers and shops to know that's not a nice thing to do to these cars.

Got any links of that sort of thing to read? It's probably pretty entertaining. :)

Mike - a while back I uploaded the Best Motoring Drift Bible to your FTP. Check it out. It covers all 7 of the basic drift techniques. ;)
