I mounted the Hella 90mm projectors in the top grill area on the 02 WRX. I have always wanted to add more light down the center of the stock beam pattern. If anyone is interested I can e-mail pictures or if someone wants to attach the pics to this thread just PM me.
I had to add a new relay and wiring plus cut the plastic grill and fabricate some mounting hardware.

How much do you feel they may affect air flow? I have Hella horns mounted now, and wouldn't want to take up too much more of that "flow" with lights....but am definitely in the camp that'd benefit from some extra lumens during spirited nighttime cruising.
Pics would be great, but I cannot help in that regard, unfortunately.

I haven't seen engine temps rise at all and its been in the lower 90s with high humidity. I think most of the air flows in through the lower opening anyway.
The one thing that I was concerned about was having the lamps cause an annoying wistling or more wind noise. Luckly this did not happen.
I have no idea if this will pass NJ inspection next year. The lamps do have SAE and DOT stamps on them. Also I can turn them off completely when the car is being inspected (or just remove them). They are wired so that they are only on when the other headlights are off or on highbeam. Low beam is just the stock headlights.

The hardest part is making the brackets to hold the lamps in place.
I have some sketches that I can finish up and post them.
I'll take some more pictures of the details.
The other thing is that you'll have to cut the grill to make things fit.

I think that the 90mm projectors can be modified to handle HID bulbs but the mod makes them a little longer. Bling wasn't the main reason why I did this. There are a lot of deer on the backroads that I drive and the stock headlights have a weak highbeam even with the silverstar bulbs.

If even a rudimentary write-up is possible I'd really, really appreciate it. I'm in the same neck of the woods regarding deer (pun intended) and could definitely benefit from a similar set-up, but think that light bars are FUGLY.
Any help would be tremendous, and they look great!

Actually, if you get an HID kit with the H7 adapter on the bulbs already, it only takes minimal modding to make it HID ready. I'm running a Philips 4300k HID kit in my Prodrive lights, which have the Hella H7 Projectors as low-beams. The lighting is significantly better than halogen and the glare is controlled to where oncoming traffic isn't blinded. I realize HID isn't necessary since these are an auxilliary light source for you (it would be overjkill to get HIDs). In anycase, have you visited the Automotive Lighting Forum that has an entire section dedicated to the Hella H7 unit? If not, here ya go ;)
