View Full Version : New exhaust for STI
1fastsube 07-22-2004, 11:50 AM I have an 05 STI and it is too quiet and I would like an aftermarket exhaust that looks like the stock one with more sound and some power. Ive been leaning towards the Perrin or Borla, let me know what you think I should get.
WRX Jim 07-22-2004, 12:08 PM buya turboxs turboback

1fastsube 07-22-2004, 12:18 PM Sorry I forgot to mention it had to be cat back. Dont want any boost creep issues.
White out 07-22-2004, 01:19 PM Borla is a very good exhaust. On i - club there is a thread that is just pictures of exhausts. It will give you a good idea of what they look like.

tm999xxx 07-22-2004, 01:22 PM 2nd vote for turboxs
DISCOPOPE 07-22-2004, 01:35 PM you will get no real power from a catback.
imo get a catted downpipe.
good power gains, looks stock, good sounds, no creep....
SkirtBoy 07-22-2004, 01:36 PM Sorry I forgot to mention it had to be cat back. Dont want any boost creep issues.
You won't get any boost creep provided you retain a cat.
I have a TXS turboback with highflow cat, and I don't get boost creep.
SLKWrx 07-22-2004, 03:06 PM 1fastsube, I just picked up the Bosal SPT exhaust. Its a 3" catback, sounds nice, and subaru will not give you trouble over it because its a suby part. Heck, they'll even install it for you if you like.

wrxman02 07-22-2004, 04:33 PM i would say the the bosal kit from subaru is nice. now start talking about t.b. then i vote vishnu.
jason2004STI 07-22-2004, 05:55 PM Hi all,
Not to jack your thread, but ...Have you checked in to COBB Tuning's exhaust components?
Catback:
http://cobbtuning.com/sti/power-i.html#catback
Turboback:
http://cobbtuning.com/sti/power-i.html#s-turboback
This is the system I am saving/waiting for, might be worth looking into.
Peace
Jason
I love my STi :)
DISCOPOPE 07-22-2004, 06:04 PM if you are interested in the cobb tbe, i'd advise ordering then saving...
they are extreemely backordered...
maestro 07-22-2004, 06:06 PM I have COBB's TBE on order for my F-XT right now. After all my research, COBB's exhaust looks to be the most completely engineered and most understated exhaust system, and the craftsmanship looks top-notch.
paperchasin 07-22-2004, 06:39 PM You won't get any boost creep provided you retain a cat.
I have a TXS turboback with highflow cat, and I don't get boost creep.
There are 2 cats right?? One in the DP and another right after it. Which one are you keeping to prevent creep? I am assuming u are eliminating the cat in the DP and retaining the other one?? Do u have any CEL issues or did it come with a fix??
White out 07-22-2004, 07:37 PM Do the wastegate mod, or have someone do it for you. Then there would be no worry about creep. Then you could do turbo back and get the best power gain. I had Godspeed do it for my STi for $30. Did a cross country rally with an average speed over 100mph and had no creep the entire time.

John Sever 07-22-2004, 08:58 PM I installed the TXS catless stealth back and my scoobysport rear section this past weekend...MAD BOOST CREEP...
Threw the stock Sti muffler back on and the creep is gone for now.
Anonymouse20910 07-22-2004, 09:57 PM TurboXS Stealthback (Catted) + AccessPort Stage II Map = No boost creep so far. :)
roybfr 07-22-2004, 09:59 PM catless = Mad Boost Creep
Keeping some restriction in the exhaust will help boost creep.
I vote TXS with the non fart can muffler. Had it on my 02 and always liked it.
1fastsube 07-23-2004, 01:42 AM Thanks everyone for your input, I am gonna go to Agile Automotive in Maryland and talk to a guy I know there and talkt to him about exhaust systems and the creep

Golfa 07-23-2004, 11:42 AM get TXS stealthback with Prodrive muffler, looks stock, and isn't too loud
it's a great combo
02WRX_BLUE 07-23-2004, 05:12 PM another vote for "TXS stealthback" without cat. You get both "Sound and performance" that you wanted.... Of course it's gonna look stock since you are keeping stock axleback..

You want a TurboXS Turboback with hi-flow cat and Magnaflow muffler.
I guarantee you'll like it!

it's unbelievable :disco: :disco: :disco:
boxered 07-24-2004, 06:37 PM Dude, better watch adding a loud exhaust. The cops are cracking down on anything Japanese with a loud sound. Best bet is the Cobb turboback but you will have to wait until supply catches up with demand.
IBAUCLAPlaya 07-25-2004, 02:59 AM Not to hijack the thread but I have a question. If I put on a catted TXS turboback w/ RFL-Ti muffler and sent my turbo to deadbolt, would all I need be the Monster port? Or would I have to get the black hole wastegate upgrade too? For either one, would I have to do anythign else engine management wise if I got a UTEC or could I just run the map for a their turboback exhaust and stock turbo and maybe raise the boost a bit? Also would it make sense to get Compressor housing outlet - INTERNAL port too if I send my turbo in? I just don't want any boost creep and I don't plan on upgrading my turbo. Thanks
IBAUCLAPlaya 07-25-2004, 02:46 PM Anybody? Also what size RSB does the STi have? Would it make sense to get the Perrin adjustable one?
roybfr 07-25-2004, 03:04 PM I would just have them port the wastegate, since you are going to be running catted, if you have any boost creep it should be minimal. As far as the UTEC the map for thier TBE + Stock Turbo (Stage 1 STI) would be a good starting place but since every car is different a little tweaking would probably not be bad.

airbornewilly 07-27-2004, 08:35 AM Consider the APS TBE, im pretty sure thats the one im going to get. It might be a little loud but its a very nice piece.
f4phantomii 07-27-2004, 09:13 AM Bunch of pictures of mufflers, catbacks, and turbobacks of all kinds at this site:

the blue thing 08-20-2004, 09:51 PM hey, TreyS... I am looking into getting a Blitz Nur spec too. I am just wondering how it sounds. I had a 5Zigen fireball and a Helix downpipe installed on my previous WRX and it was loud...
stripperluva 08-23-2004, 05:11 PM I LOVE my HKS ti-carbon with the removable silencer. Nice and quiet with just a little bit of growl with the silencer in and loud and mean with it out! But I also like the way it looks where as some don't.
plus the butt dyno likes it.
