Just curious what you got. I'm trying to figure out what my car is worth.
My car:
2003 WRX sedan 5spd, blue
15k miles
clean carfax
only option is armrest extension
only mods are strut bars, painted side skirts and 17" Rota Subzeros
car is perfect... not a scratch or ding on it.

Yeah, I've looked at KBB, Edmunds and NADA. The values (trade-in, private party and retail) on those sites are all ridiculously over-inflated. I bought my car used and the KBB retail value was about $1000 higher than what I could have purchased a brand new one for.
So far my best guess is to look at what the private party and dealer cars are priced at on Autotrader and adjust from there. But that's not exactly accurate either.

I know this might not help you specifically, but while I was at the dealership for an alignment the service manager told me about a program being tested here in AZ and also in NV. Subaru is taking trade ins on '00-'02 Subarus. They guarantee good money on the trade in. He told me he couldn't believe the amount people were getting for their cars. I guess Subaru is trying to keep people in the Subaru family. Your car is an '03 so it doesn't quite fit into this program, but you might want to talk to the dealership anyway. Maybe they can work something out. If you are trading for another Subaru that is.

I got one of those letters tellimg me I had a guaranteed trade in value. I couldn't believe the amount they offered me in the letter either....but it was because on my 02 WRX wagon they were offering under 12k for it.

Dealers often inflate trade in value but bone you with a high purchase price of vehicle. These two things should be evaluated seperatley.

Just in case anyone needs to see this for the future...
I got $17,000 for the car on trade-in. I took off the side skirts and wheels and put the stockers back on so the car was stock except for the strut bars. New car was purchased at Invoice - $1000 dealer cash incentive so the $17k figure is pretty accurate for the WRX.

What did you trade it in for?
'04 Accord EX V6 6 speed
(I know, I know... FWD... yuck! I miss low-end torque and a nice smooth ride. No more taking corners at 45. Oh well!)

Thats pretty good getting a Honda at invoice price. In the past when I was negotiating for one, they wouldn't budge much under msrp.

I know what you mean. This will be my 6th Honda or Acura product and by far the best deal I've ever gotten on one. I've been reading that the incentive war has finally had an effect on Honda and they simply have to discount like this to keep up. Competition is a beautiful thing. :D
