I've got a stock '05 STi and after a week or so I notice some black build up on my exhaust tip. Is this normal?

bty I'm running 94 Octane gas

inside the pipe yes.
outside the pipe on chrome heat shield no.
on the bumper no.

It does run rich in "open loop". It is normal. You can read more info. about it in the Engine management forum.

lower part of the pipe gets black spilling over the silver part edge in 2 days. This car runs pig rich.

My '04 has done this for a year now. It's normal.

Yes it is normal and as everone said, it runs rich.

to quantify how rich it runs, at WOT, full boost, I see AFRs as rich as 10.3 at times on my Tuna Wideband kit.

I have black stuff on the bottom of my tail pipe...

Yepper, pig rich 2005 STi here. Can't wait for ECUteck or AP...

So if the 05's are "pig rich" just like my Lightning, why do so many of them detonate?? and if you all don't mind me asking, what is a ECUteck?? or a AP??? I am seriously thinking of trading the L in on one of these,,, however, my Lightning did some of the same things these cars do... ie, oil in the intake, or intercooler, and some, detonate..... thanks for any info... regards... G
