what do you guys mean by "OEM HID projectors"?
sorry for the newb question but what do you guys mean by "OEM HID projectors"?

I see many people pointing out the DOT projectors on AUDIs and MAXIMAs are good and they fit on other cars (such as accords and others). How do you know if these housings will fit your car? I have a 02 WRX BTW.

The ones I see on the board for HID housings are: JDM, EDM, STI, and Morettes. Are these my only choices? I see that one member wrxsti04 used AUDI A6 projectors on his 04 STI. How can I do this on my 02 wrx?

thanks

OEM HID projectors mean just what it says- they are projector housings that are original equipment on certain vehicles with HIDs, and are engineered from the factory to produce optimal lighting with HID bulbs.
While it may be possible to cannibalize another mfr's light housing and adapt the projector units to fit in a different vehicle, it is a lot of work and by no means a "drop-in" install. The appearance of the finished product may leave something to be desired as well, depending on how much effort is put into it.
Most people who install projector lights, either halogen or HID, use one of the pre-made assemblies that are available for the car (the ones you listed). The lighting results will not be quite as good as with a set of OEM HID projectors, but will still be far superior to retrofitting the existing reflector housings.
Both JDMs and EDMs are STi lights as supplied by Subaru overseas. JDMs should be avoided because the beam pattern is RHD and will direct light upwards to oncoming traffic, even more so if HIDs are used with them. EDMs are the LHD version and are preferable for both halogen and HID applications.
Morettes are also LHD projectors and have an edge in lighting performance because the low beams are H7 vs. the H1 in the STi lights. H7 halogen bulbs produce more light than H1's, and the H7 housing will accept an OEM D2S HID bulb with minor modifications.

aznfoos, wrxsti04 did an entirely custom job. He bought the necessary parts (projectors, bulbs, ballasts, etc.) and actually put the whole thing together himself. I'm assuming you read the thread on that.

Wrxsti04 basically retrofitted projectors into his reflector housings, and made it look really good with the custom work. You can also retrofit projectors into your 02 housings, by sending them to a company such as hidtech.com. Go to their website and click on "projects" to see some of their work, including a 2002 WRX. I have seen a couple of users here that had this done. However, keep in mind what Mulder said above about lighting results from retrofit jobs.
