I'm looking to add a beeper to a shift light that I'm going to install. Obviously, I'll wire the beeper in parallel with the final LED, but that's not my question.
My question is this: is there a way to make an STi-like "bee-bee-beep" sound as opposed to a "beeeeeeep" or a "bzzzzzt" sound? I'm looking to emulate the STi's noise, in short.
I know there isn't much information here, I wish I had the shift light unit in so I could be more specific. It's an Axas Combat Shift Indicator. I know that a 1-3v buzzer will be adequate for the setup, as I've read about somebody else wiring said buzzer into said shift indicator.
Was this clear at all? Anybody have any ideas?

maybe it'd be easier to get an STI version 8 gauge cluster.

A wild idea -- but the STi Alarm Clock has a bee-bee-beep chime that sounds exactly like the gauge cluster's ;)

So, either spend the $$$ for a Sti clock and rip out the buzzer, -- OR --
Find a cheap electronic alarm clock that has a "beep" alarm sound that you like, and rip out the buzzer. Or I'm sure your local electronics hobby store has some buzzer kits that you can use.
One last idea --
I read somewhere someone who rigged their multi-LED shift light to a buzzer, but had it buzz with EACH LED light as they came on at their pre-set multiple RPM points. This way, your beeps are timed slower if you are revving slowly (driving like a grandma, you may just get BEEP...... BEEP <shift>) But if you are driving "fastly" you'll get BEEP...BEEP.BEEP <shift>
Kinda cool - the frequency/urgency of the BEE-BEE-BEEP gives a good indication of how fast your are approaching redline. I can't remember but I think it was someone who had a S2000 who did it and he even sells a kit. (I guess the S2000 with it's super-quick/responsive 9000RPM redline is a particular case where you would want plenty of warning if you shift at redline all the time.)
Good Luck!

Found it..
His is a kit that gives you beeps spaced by RPM:
http://www.baustnet.com/honda/mods/shift/shift.htm
Check it out -- he has an in-car video that shows the beeps timed with RPM's, and it has some pretty cool features too -- for example it stores highest RPM shifted at played back to you in beeps. Useful if you want to know how your car was treated by a valet parker / dealership

Yeah.. I have a V7 STi cluster you can buy, but it's got no MPH! :)

Anybody tried one of these on a wrx yet? Seems pretty choice.

I just bought an ECUTek delta dash and made my own custom dash that plays .wav files in stages as the RPM hits certain points.. Plus it lights up little indicators on my in-dash display so I get shift lights too.. ;)
Making the .wav files was harder than I thought.. I had to find a sound I liked, and then tweak the sound for each stage so that it's pitch, frequency, and volume change as the RPMs do.
