View Full Version : Lower boost levels after StealthBack and wastegate porting?

So I just installed my StealthBack and also had my wastegate ported for my STi

Before, I used to see 1.0 bar or a hair less in all gears... sometimes it peaked at 1.1Bar.

Now, i see about 0.8-0.85 in first, 0.9 in second, 0.95 in third and 1.0 Bar in fourth fifth.. blah blah...

Is this somewhat normal? Whats up?

Also, the car feels faster even though its a lower levels...

Would it be safe to get a boost controller and set it at 1.1 Bar?

Would I see 1.1 bar in all gears?

Did you reset the ECU?

Did you ruin the turbo? ;)

Yes i reset the ECU, why would I ruin my turbo? I stated that the car feels faster at these lower boost levels...

If you ported the wastegate too much it wont hold boost properly. I would bet you are OK though. I am seeing similar boost levels now that my catless stealthback is on there with the stock STi muffler. And I did not port the wastegate at all. I installed a boost guage on the same day so I hav no reference on pre-exhaust install boost levels. But I am not creeping so I am happy.

thats good, I was gonna just do it, but thinking that I was already there, I just did it and got it over with... It worked out for the better I think... having it bigger means that I can be a little more aggresive with a boost controller in the future... My friend also smoother out some areas inside the actual port, he said right before the exit there was a lump that he deleted as well as smoothed out the area before the exit for better transition.

Im glad to hear that you see similar numbers.. The car is considerably faster regardless so I dont really mind that it boosts less. I checked peak a little bit ago and at some point today it hit 1.05 bar... so it gets up there sometimes..

If you lost a psi, its possibly due to leakage at the wastegate. If this is true you will ALWAYS be working the turbo "x" amount harder to get the same reults.

Meaning if your car made 15psi before and it makes 14 now, the turbo is still working just as hard as before, but it is making less boost because it is not as effecient as it was.

At least this is my theory on this. If anyone can prove me wrong please do so.

I see your point, BUT, the fact that it DOES see 1.0 Bar later on and also the fact that someone else boosts the same and they dont have a ported turbo makes me feel better...

Not to mention that as we all know, the STi doesn't always boost 1.0 Bar...

The factory ECU will see the boost is lower and adjust accordingly. Not 'fixing' the problem, but working around it. The more you drive it the more it should go back to normal.

yeah, it almost doesn't matter... now Im saving for AccessPort and its almost 18psi...

Which will make it like the turbo is making 19psi... which will give you higher operating temps... which will.... etc...
