After installing some stereo equipment today the check engine light came on and I don't know why. Can anyone help me or tell me what they suggest?

Is it on or blinking? You could go get the code scanned at Autozone and then tell us what it is. Then we'll be able to help you out.

if it is blinking, please tell us when.
if it is blinking while you are driving it could be because you are are knocking, that would be bad.

Did someone else do the install?

I know in my 2001 2.5rs, there are these two green connectors by the hood release lever that are disconnected. They are for putting the obd2 in test mode or something. If you connect them they make the cel blink.

ya we found out the hard way about the test connectors

I'll bet that's it. It is somewhat common for those connectors to get plugged in during a stereo install or other under-dash work, because they look like they are supposed to be connected. But, they're supposed to be left unplugged. They activate a diagnostic mode when connected together.
