The '05 STis, and probably other models too, have a clock setting button labelled with an "S" which the handbook says is for setting the clock from a radio signal.Unfortunately it provides little other information. Anyone know if it is using the signal from WWVB? If so this signal is transmitted at a very slow bit rate. Should the button be held in for a minute or two? (If the button is pressed briefly it just resets the minutes to zero.)

I highly doubt there is receiving equipment in the car for the WWV signal. The button is for manually setting the time to zero minutes/seconds based on the audible time signal broadcast by news stations on the hour, i.e. "at the tone, the time is 8:00".

Yes I think you must be right. Sometimes the manual is less than explicit. The actual wording is: "To reset the minutes the '00' with a radio time signal, push the 'S' button."

I like my WWVB idea better :-)

Thanks for the quick reply.

Great Idea! Subaru, it would not add too much to do this! Hell, since the clock should be in the radio anyway why hook the radio to the clock.

Seriously it could feed off the antenna connected to the radio.

And speaking of which as much as I hate government regulations Why doesn't the FCC mandate that all automotive radios sold in the US after Jan 2006 have weather/SAME service built in?

It's only a few bucks for the chip. Easy to add. Who makes the radios for Subaru?

Especially on all Subies! They should be wired to get the driver's attention if there is a severe weather warning.

We have the same cars STim - I'll PM you.
