View Full Version : Snow/Ice Tires VOTE MichiganRS 12-26-2000, 08:04 PM What brand and model gets your vote? The best of the best? auricom 12-26-2000, 09:05 PM bridgestone blizzak ws-50, good all around tire, deep snow, packed snow, and ice Eric SS 12-26-2000, 09:08 PM Snowchains http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif Eric (Doesn't need chains in Phoenix) Subie Gal 12-26-2000, 09:11 PM ok... this topic (sorry but i have to say it) has been covered a lot of times in the past few weeks.... if you use the search function i bet you find TONS of threads on ice/snow tires.... lots of great info there... anyway... Hakka 1's... studded for deep snow... Michelin Artic Alpin's.... those are my 2 fave... j. North Ursalia 12-26-2000, 09:24 PM RE92's of course (that is, when I want to 'play' snow/ice filled parking lots!!!). Studded Hakka's are damn nice... wish I had some! Brian http://members.nbci.com/_XMCM/northursalia/impreza/index.htm You and the Captain make it happen.... Michael 12-27-2000, 01:05 AM got the LM-22 blizzaks those i must say very imprezive was going up and down a 45 degree hill cover with snow and ice, no slippage what so ever.. so far so good laters michael Jon Bogert 12-27-2000, 06:51 AM These voting threads are meaningless. Are we trying to measure market share here? I've also got the LM-22s, and they are pretty good on dry pavement and packed snow/ice. Haven't had any deep stuff yet. FatChanceTi 12-27-2000, 06:56 AM yup, this is kind of silly. TireRack has done tests on a few of the widely available tires. Any decent snow tire will improve upon your RE92s. If you look over the posts the past 30 days or so there is enough bandwidth on snowtires to satisfy anyone. RP WRC666 12-27-2000, 07:46 AM Hakka 1's!! ABS doesn't even kick in if you stomp on the brakes. Studs (on tires, others are rare..) are illegal in MI... Don't need them anyways. 666 Gambit 12-27-2000, 08:20 AM I dunno anymore. After my session at a winter rally school, no matter what tires you have - hakkas, alpins, blizzaks etc.... u still either spin out or get stuck. Common sense and driver skills prevails. For best winter "simulation" practice tires my vote would be the RE92s. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif Chin 12-27-2000, 09:48 AM Hakka 1! Studs are overrated http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/wink.gif Christian kevinsUBARU 12-27-2000, 10:12 AM Hercules Polar Trax 8Complex 12-27-2000, 10:30 AM Bald Kumho Supra Ecsta 712's. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif Ver.III 12-27-2000, 01:49 PM Toyo Observes G0-2's Best all around snow/ice My 2cents http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif GTBGUY 12-27-2000, 07:15 PM Hakka NRW's! V6 12-28-2000, 12:50 AM How about Bridgestone MZ-01? omahasubaru 12-28-2000, 05:39 AM Pirelli snow/ice tires... don't know which model they are, I'll look at my car later today! dscottf 12-28-2000, 08:13 AM Blizzak MZ-02. Better dry and ice traction, a little less deep snow traction than WS-15 (had those on an accord), but AWD more than makes up for that. They rock in nasty slush and black ice (compared to other tires anyway) Scott "You never see a Ford Explorer in a four wheel drift" Frey motorob 12-28-2000, 10:07 AM Hakkapeliitta! Hakkapeliitta! Hakkapeliitta! (if you chant this, it makes a pretty good snow dance, done around a burning RE-92 of course...) gjones 12-28-2000, 09:11 PM OK, I'll throw in a vote for the Dunlop Graspic DS-1. Only $72 apiece from Tire Rack in 205/55-16. The UPS guy showed up today with the tires in the middle of a snowstorm so I went and had them mounted. I'm very impressed. We got 7.5 inches of snow today and they performed beautifully in the powder and on the packed stuff. Spent a couple hours tonight just tearing around in the snow. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif patr 12-30-2000, 01:21 AM how many f-in times are we gonna go through this ? for snow, ice, and mixed snow on ice, there are different 'perfect' tires. Some snows suck on ice, some ice tires suck on snow. So dont suck as much as the others. Jaxx 12-30-2000, 07:32 AM why did i even bother to read this thread... oh well i have hakka-1s love them hey imprezer maybe we should have a snow tire fourm hehe -j Eric Gagnon 12-30-2000, 08:17 AM Cheapo Hancook Ralley Snows with Studs. Lots of traction on ice and snow, but loud and scary on the highway. But with the amount of snow we have this combo works great. Eric |
