View Full Version : Clock Wiring Capacity

Hello All,
I searched a good amount but could not find a clear enough answer. So if this is a redundant question, please feel free to direct me the right way :p

I installed two electronic autometer gauges (oil temp, oil pressure) to where the clock used to be. I used the ground wire and the switched power from the stock clock harness. Just to be sure I called Autometer and asked what the current draw of the gauges were (she said around .27 amps each). So total I have running through the clock wiring is around .54 amps. Is that enough draw to be worried about the clock wiring harness?

If it is going to cause problems down the line, I rather just re-wire everything for the added piece of mind.

Does anyone know what the current handling capabilities of the stock clock wiring is? Thanks!

That's fine. The Subaru gauge pod gets wired to the same harness.

Thank you for your fast response. I was just a little paranoid about running too much power through those "tiny" wires. Thank you again! :)

I wouldn't run anything on that circuit that really draws significant current, but .5A is not that much.

I'm planning on tapping the clock for my Tuner Pro - which is 2 amps - is that too much current?

Well it's a 15 amp circuit, so two amps is fine.

Are you sure becaise it's 15amps - (all of the other stuff on there) = amount left for clock. Iwould guess that two amps is OK but close. I'd guess the clock draws less then .1 amps (~1watt)
