View Full Version : What would you do if you were team boss for Minardi F1?
Davis K Powers 07-27-2004, 02:45 PM Minardi, a team that pretty much comes in last place everytime, needs help.
What would you do to change the team around? (let's say status quo, no new money/investments)
Race strategy?
Driver lineup?
Me thinks:
Strategy: Qualify the cars on very little fuel. Maybe that would get a mid-pack qualifying session. Then your 5 first laps should be really fast due to low fuel and new tires. Hopefully that would get you up in top 5. (optimist) Quick fuel stop, then out again and make it a 3-4 stopper. (depending on track) Probably still end up pretty bad result BUT at least you had a car that ran toward the top 5 for a few laps and qualified well. That's better than being a dead qualifier, and a permanent backmarker for the entire race.
Driver line up:
Jos Ver Stopp'em:)
Mika Salo
Current drivers suck.
Now what would you do???
Jon Bogert 07-27-2004, 02:55 PM Current drivers suck. No way! Zsolt's got the most natural talent of anyone out there.
Seriously, though, the Minardis and Jordans look frightening to drive. It's pretty hard to be competitive when you have to catch the car at the brink of spinning on every corner.
driggity 07-27-2004, 03:00 PM I don't know that your strategy would help that much. In most cases they're at least a second off of the Jordans and three or more seconds off of 10th position. Maybe with an extremely light load and better drivers they could do it but thats going to be hard. I don't think they'll be able to do much until they make some big car improvements. Of course I have no idea where they'll get the money for that.
AndyRoo 07-27-2004, 03:10 PM I dont think his strategy was meant to get much better results...just make the cars look like they suck less by qualifying decently.
And I agree. If you cant win, or rather, if you cant come close to earning respectability of any sort, at least try and get some positive exposure as a car that qualifies decently.
Mika Salo would be a good choice of driver, but i imagine hes more expensive then their rookies.
edit: but your right, even with a ridiculously light fuel load they would be hard pressed to make it into the top 15.
jetfan2207 07-27-2004, 03:13 PM If i were involved with that program, I would try drastic and unconventional set ups in order to finish, or qualify better. They can't do much worse. They should experiment with drastic setups, either they will do better, or they will at least be entertaining.
Anyway, is anyone else sick of the Ferrari wins? It's not even fun anymore, it is now a race to see who comes in second or third. Even if you are a Ferrari fan, you have to admit, it is getting pretty boring.
AndyRoo 07-27-2004, 03:17 PM i think McLaren will get a win by the end of the season.
BriDrive 07-27-2004, 03:19 PM Driver problem.....hard to fix as Minardi and Jordan actually DEPEND on at least one driver funding himself through his own investment relationships.
Strategy....no strategy will improve their placement as I'm sure they've already tried many different combos to no avail...alas, the best strategy they can imploy is to make sure they at least always try to finish.....
Another strategy (as they have severley limited aero development) is to hire spys who can actually rip-off design cues more efficiently.....

TheRipler 07-27-2004, 05:07 PM No way! Zsolt's got the most natural talent of anyone out there.
He's the best Hungarian driver in F1 history. Heck, he got a point in a Minardi!! You have to have some talent to keep those Minardis on the track.
Dussander 07-27-2004, 05:15 PM What would you do if you were team boss for Minardi F1?
New hair cut and a shave?
artkevin 07-27-2004, 05:32 PM I think those cars are dogs but at least they are not as scary as the Jordans. The Minardi's are just down right slow. I wish they would try out new technology to get more coverage, like the pug-assed Williams of this year. They have nothing to lose so why not try some off the wall designs?
I do give them credit for giving a lot of really good drivers chances such as Trulli, Fisi and Webber. Scrap both of the drivers and get Wilson back and give Bourdais a chance...or maybe Paul Tracy. I would like to see him lose in any car.
ChrisW 07-27-2004, 06:05 PM I would imitate Sauber and Buy/license the previous seasons Ferrari.
WRCar 07-27-2004, 06:47 PM Switch to WRC cause F1 isn't really working out for Minardi..
bal00 07-27-2004, 07:07 PM You're implicating that Minardi is actually trying to improve, which is not the case. Seriously, Minardi's budget isn't THAT tight. The team owner just pockets as much as he can while keeping the cars running somehow. They're using 3 year old cars and there is NO development going on.
