i got sti headlights for my 2002 wrx. i am using an HID kit. so this is what i did. connected the postiive from the ballasts to the stock harnesses and grounded the negative directly to the battery. so to wire the high beam bulbs on the new headlights, i connected the negative to the ground slot on the stock harness and the positive to the 3rd and only slot left. i cannot get the high beams to come on.

now when i connect the positive on the high beams to the positive that the HIDs are using, my high beams work, but they are on with my lowbeams as well but only half as bright. i don't think the high beam bulbs are supposed to be lit at all with the low beams correct?

what did i do wrong?
btw, high beam indicator is bright and glowing all thet ime so it is an electrical issue dealing with the voltage.

You posted in the wrong forum. You'll probably get more answers in the Electrical & Lighting forum.

you need to understand that the WRX lighting system is wacky in that it's a switched ground setup.

Meaning: of the three pins inside the factory 9007 plug, two of them are grounds (low beam ground and high beam ground) and the middle pin is +12V.

So, basically you are trying to wire a ground to a ground or a +12 to a +12 and getting nothing.

Are you trying to put the HIDs on lowbeams or on highbeams? You would have FAR better luck and FAR better actual performance if you wire them like this:

http://wrx.dicknogs.net/lighting/edmHDwiring_low_always_on.gif

In this setup, simply replace the lowbeams with the HID kit and then, when you have the lowbeams selected, the HID lows are on and when you have highbeams selected, both the HID AND the highbeams are on.

I have seen and tried the wiring diagram that somebody posted on scoobymods.com for the UK300 lights and it just plain is a piece of crap. This diagram is much simpler, much more electrically sound, and less susceptible to circuit gremlins.
