Does it matter if I disconnect the negative or positive terminal from the battery? My negative terminal is a lot harder to get to than the negative. Also, is there just a fuse I can pull that would do the same thing?

There's no fuse as far as I know of. Not sure about the - or + terminal. You could try the + and if the odometer goes dead, then you know it worked.

It is ok to pull the positive, just a lot more dangerous. All the metal around it is ground, and all the capacitors in the car will still be charged, so arcing is possible.

I assume your battery is not in the stock location (judging by your car description).
