after trying to read that Big ass thread of a bunch of people bickering about hwat header is the best and blah blah blah....here are my questions

What companies make headers for the 2.2l Impreza with a 4EAT

what companies make high flow catalitic converters for 1998 imprezas ?

which ones makes the most gains..say, for 1/4 mile times

which ones sound the best when coupled to a Apex N1

so far i am looking at the borla and Random Tech combo.

people with 2.2s, speak out !

Most 2.2L come with a single port head on each side
Only Borla makes a header for them
The gains are about 7hp, 7 lb-ft
I asked around and found that there is a very high rate of failure and I did not use them

yeah thats what i hear too. One guy said he sent them back 2 times in one year

The new generation Borlas are good. They come with a 1 million mile warranty, and they sound wicked on a subaru.

The 4th generation borlas for the 2.5 L are supposed to be reliable
Several vendors I spoke with say that the problems in the 2.2L has not been fixed even in the 4th generation version
and one vendor gave me a ball park estimate of 10% failure rate

Why even bother with headers for the 2.2? You're only going to get more noise out of it and maybe a couple of WHP if any.

borla

Only for the MT as far as I know.

that's exactly my point...i have a supposevly "loud" exhaust, which isn't loud at all...heck, you can barely hear the exhaust note over the note of my "extended" weapon R intake.

How do you know this?

Kevin, the solution to fitting MT headers in you car is really very simple (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378813&)

Apparently the V5 Borlas can fit a 2.5ltr 4EAT.

No! :D It seems like it's a 4EAT to manual conversion. Man, instead of skimming over, I better read it straight through. I'm at work at the moment though. :p

It is. Think of all the header possibilities... ;)

so the borla's for the 2.2 won't fit on an auto?
any harm in modifying the holes to make it fit besides voiding warranty?
it won't harm the car at all will it?

why bother modding the 2.2, i'm buying a 2.5 because the 2.2 is a peice of **** and impossible to mod

whoa a$$. ever hear of originality and that nothing is impossible. the 2.2 is not impossible to mod, it just needs a little more time and effort. The heads can be swapped to lower compression and utilize dual ports. A turbo can be used at low boost or even at higher boost if you can upgrade internals. Its a good engine it just needs to be bitch slapped into place.

iirc borla is the only one to make single port headers... the brullen/cobb/etc are all dual port headers.

don't know much about working w/ the 4EAT but I didn't know there was a problem either. (I hope not cuz I was planning on doing this to my 96 2.2L)

as an FYI... the dual port 2.2L was used 93-95... 96 they changed to the single port. so 93-95 2.2L guys can use the 2.5RS headers.

i installed the borla single ports on my 98 2.2 but needed to drill the holes a little to allow the studs to fit through. but... it sounds like there may be a leak somewhere cause when i accelerate, from about 2 1/2 k rpms onward there's a raspy sound almost like one of the gaskets are leaking.

so my question is... do people think the borla's are cracked or does this sound more like a gasket issue? haven't had a chance to get under there and check out the welds. any help would be appreciated. i want to keep them on because i do feel a slight increase in peformance so hopefully i can figure this out.
