****in tough. If i had to do it again, I wouldn't. I put so much pressure and strength into getting that ****in bolt off that I thought I was going to break the engine in two. I used a 5 foot long breaker bar too, and I'm a HUGE guy.

I had no problem at all I also used a breaker bar and it took about 5 mins from start to finish, and that includes getting all the tools and the clean up ;)

Very simple install.

You're going to want at least 2 people around.

In the case of the crank pulley, it will be one person to break it free, while the other steps on the brakes (with the car in 5th/park and the e-brake on as well). This coupled with something stopping the rest of the pullies to not turn (shove something in the power steering pulley and brace it in the engine) and you should be able to get the bolt to break free with a breaker bar and something to extend it to like +5' or so.

It sounds daunting, but it really isn't all that bad. With my car this weekend, we just needed to get a chain wrench in order to keep the pulley from turning while I broke it free with the breaker bar and upper bar from a 2.5ton jack. With all that, I was able to break the bolt free.

However, the gains I feel by putting a lighter crank pulley on is incredible. It's not a "kick you in the pants" feeling, but the car is no longer boggy when I step on it. It just pulls all the way through the rev band, and it reaches the power band and everything so much quicker. Most definitely a worthy investment for anyone.

Its not that bad.

I once did 8 complete underdrive pulley kits in a day, among other mods.

The ease of the install depends on the model year. My 95 has so much space between the radiator and crank pulley that I didnt have to remove anything other than the belts to get the pulley off. Meanwhile, a 2000 RS takes a bit more work to get the wrench in there... I dont know how much space there is for the 03 though.

I had S-Squared do mine... I couldnt even get the alternator pulley to budge =\. They charged me a pretty penny though...

How long would it take a shop to install a 3 peice pulley kit?

They shouldn't whack you more than about $60 for the 3 set install.

The install is really easy with an impact wrench. Thats about the only way to get the alternator pulley off. I wouldnt recommend jamming anything through the pulleys to hold them. Your best bet if they want to spin is one of those strap wrenches. Putting things through the pulley is a good way to damage either the pulley or the thing you jammed it against. Just my opinions.

when i had mine done it wasnt to bad and my car is an auto, more of a hassle

just loosen the belts, get a big breaker bar on the nut to the crank pulley and we did the start crack nut method with starting the car for a second

in all prob took like 15 mins just do to the engine being hot

AZP...how much you charge for a crank pulley install on an MT 02 OBS?

I found that tightening the cam and crank pulley's to be the biggest PITA of the whole install when I changed my Timing belt and related components. I had someone hold the pulley(s) w/ a strapwrench while I torqued them down to specs.

Crank pulley bolt: 130 ft-lb
Cam pulley(s) bolt(s): 58 ft-lb

Ditto ;) .

How do you loosen and tighten the belts? Do you need a special tool or do you just loosen some brackets?

Staticfirtsz - I am shipping it today to the buyer!
Ryans... - All you need are 10 and 12 mm wrenches to loosen the brackets and bolts on the AC ? and the Alternator.

130ft lbs on the crank pulley? I'm fairly certain mine was way less than that (ej22). I had the engine on a stand when I did my timing belt. I just had my buddy hold a stopper on the flywheel while I used my 3/8s ratchet with a 1 ft extension to break it loose. It was tough, but took like 5 seconds. Are you guys sissies? LoL!! Just kidding.

Im sure its a lot easier with the engine pulled...
I want to do some pullies but dont know what to do about a new belt??? Will the stock belt work or would I need a shorter one???
How do you re-tighten the belts? Just use a pry-bar or something? I have done this on my 73' Chevy Big Block 454 but my Sube seems a little more complicated....Is it pretty much the same procedure?

130ft lbs on the crank pulley?
I've heard 94 lb-ft and 130 lb-ft on the crank pulley bolt. I tightened mine down to 120 lb-ft and felt lucky I got that since I was holding it with a strap wrench and tightening the bolt with a 1/2" torque wrench. It kept slipping and was a PITA. I'm not going to beat this in the ground because this is already a well discussed topic.
