I'm not sure if this is the proper forum for this thread, oh well. I have a 2001 2.5 rs that is bone stock and is going to stay that way. Will it make a difference in mpg and hp produced if I run regular, midgrade or premium. I have heard mixed opinions about the higher octane fuels making more hp. I have also been told that octane forces the fuel to burn at higher temps. Except for more money per gallon, I have not noticed any real difference the fuel grades. Any pointers on this would be helpful... thanks.

no
what will make a difference is buying better quality gas
if u live in a weird place that might make u prone to detonation/timing pulls sure go get higher octane but i doubt ull need highest

if ur going to arco, stop, thats garbage-gas
so far that ive seen, though i dont have it here, sonoco carries quality gas, as well as the shell and texaco stations in my town, conoco is an american oil using company and their gas seems pretty decent to me, so if u wanna support the country, shop there?!

I do not burn junk gas, thats not the problem. Usually only Shell or Marathon if I can help it, sometimes Mobil but not often. The car is not giving me any trouble. I was just wondering if higher fuel grades would give the engine a little extra power for passing. Thinking about doing an AEM short ram intake, just not sure if it worth the money for the gains if any.

unless your pinging, there isn't much to be gained from highter octane gas. You could always reset the ecu, and try using higher octane, but for my dollar, I get the best milage with 87. I've heard storys from the bike world where people who use premium in bikes who favor 87 actually buiding up carbon deposits where 87 didn't.
